🚨 Severe Weather Alert for Central Indiana 🚨

Severe storms, destructive winds, large hail, flash flooding and possible tornadoes are expected today, Wednesday, June 17, with the strongest threat from this afternoon through early Thursday morning.

📍 Areas affected: Central Indiana, including Indianapolis and nearby counties. The tornado risk is higher north of Indy, but possible across the entire area.

What to do now:
✅ Charge your phone
✅ Stay away from windows
✅ Know where you’ll shelter
✅ Bring pets inside
✅ Check on family, neighbors and older adults

If you hear emergency sirens, take shelter immediately. A tornado may be imminent or already detected in the county.

🏠 In a house: Go to the basement or an interior room on the lowest floor.
🏢 In an apartment: Go to the lowest floor you can reach. Do not use the elevator.
🚐 In a mobile home: Leave early and go to a sturdy building or designated shelter.

🏗️ Indiana’s Data Center Boom, Explained

You may have heard about new data centers planned for Decatur Township, Irvington, Monrovia, Lebanon, Plainfield, and other Indiana communities. But what exactly are they—and why are so many being built here?

A data center is essentially a giant warehouse filled with computers. Every time you stream a show, save a photo, shop online, use Google, or ask an AI tool a question, you’re relying on one. The newest generation of “hyperscale” data centers is being built to power artificial intelligence, and demand is growing rapidly around the world.

Indiana has become a major target for these projects because of its relatively affordable electricity, available power capacity, industrial land, fiber-optic infrastructure, central location, and generous tax incentives.

Supporters argue that data centers bring billions of dollars in private investment, new infrastructure, construction jobs, and future tax revenue. Critics question whether the long-term benefits justify the incentives, pointing to concerns about electricity demand, water use, noise, and the relatively small number of permanent jobs many facilities create once construction ends.

Several major projects are already proposed, approved, or under construction across Indiana, including developments by Meta, Google, Sabey, DC Blox, Metrobloks, and RadiusDC. Some of the largest could eventually require as much electricity as dozens—or even more than one hundred—Lucas Oil Stadiums operating at full power.

The services these facilities provide are used around the world, but many of the impacts—positive and negative—are felt locally. That’s why debates over who benefits, who pays, and how communities should grow are becoming increasingly important across Indiana.
