Campus Citizen

Campus Citizen We are IUI’s independent, student-run media, promising real journalism created with passion and integrity. Follow along to support our journey! You.

The Campus Citizen has been IUPUI’s only student-run independent media outlet since 2011. We strive to provide a voice for the diverse student body at IUPUI. Beyond the written word, we also serve as a distributor of other student media, including podcasts, photography, and videos. The Campus Citizen traces its legacy as an independent student news publication to 1969, when the consolidation of In

diana University-Indianapolis and Purdue University-Indianapolis created the need for a unified student newspaper. As a result, The Sagamore was born in 1971, out of The Component, an offshoot of Purdue West Lafeyette’s The Exponent, and Onomatopoeia, IU-Indianapolis’s combined student newspaper. Throughout its short tenure, The Campus Citizen has reported on corruption and a lack of transparency in student organizations, massive errors in student meal plans, and investigated sexual assault on campus, all the while keeping a spotlight on all the good things being done on our campus by our students and staff. After transitioning to an all-online media source in the Fall of 2015, and finally transitioning to the current site in Spring of 2022, we have been able to cut costs and market efficiently through social media. But our work is never over. We hope to continue growing to accompany the diverse audience on our campus of nearly 30,000 and ensure that new voices are able to be heard, while continuing to bridge the gap between the campus and the surrounding Indianapolis community. All the while, never forgetting who we serve.

On Dec. 15, 2025, a new civil lawsuit was filed by six former IU Indianapolis men’s basketball players against the university and its board of trustees which revealed serious allegations of physical and emotional abuse by former head coach Paul Corsaro.

The six players who filed the lawsuit were Briggs McClain, Nathan Dudukovich, Ronald Rutland III, Ebenezer Ogoh, Caleb Hannah and Julian Steinfeld. According to the lawsuit, the harassment, bullying and contractual breaches described occurred primarily inside the IU Indy gymnasium. These six players claimed that they were subject to relentless psychological and physical abuse or harassment that harmed them and their athletic and academic careers.

All allegations happened during practices, games and everyday off-the-court interactions with the players. The physical abuse allegations against Corsaro include choking, shoving and shoulder and chest slamming. Dudukovich was allegedly choked after a missed play and was also punched in the chest.

On Dec. 13 in Washington D.C., WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event marked a historic moment as John Cena — the creator of the iconic ‘You Can’t See Me’ catchphrase — competed in his final match, bringing ‘The Last Time is Now’ retirement tour to an end.

19,232 fans attended Cena’s final match against Gunther, the winner of the 16-man tournament. The crowd erupted when Cena’s music hit, singing along enthusiastically. The match began evenly with traded blows and chops before Gunther gained momentum with a suplex. Cena rallied back with his signature move — the Attitude Adjustment (AA) — but it wasn’t enough for the win.

Fans chanted “you still got it” as Cena fought on. He delivered another AA from the top rope, but Gunther kicked out. After trading more blows, Gunther attempted a submission, and though Cena fought hard, repeated sleeper holds eventually forced him to tap out. Cena’s final match may not have been what fans had wanted, but his retirement had been years in the making. The Eiteljorg Museum’s annual Christmas tradition, “Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure,” returns to Indianapolis on Nov. 15, 2025 running until Jan. 29, 2026. Purdue University in Indianapolis is currently the only university in the United States to offer an accredited motorsports engineering degree. Previously housed under Indiana University Purdue University (IUPUI), the motorsports engineering program has transitioned fully to Purdue University, bringing new opportunities for students.

The program aims to educate students in motorsports and automotive engineering sciences through both classroom-based and hands-on learning. Earlier this year, Purdue motorsports and Dallara, an Italian race car manufacturer, formed an official partnership to hold the program at the Dallara Experience Hub in Speedway. The company was founded by Giampaolo Dallara, who worked at Ferrari as their chief designer, later moving to companies like Maserati, Lamborghini and De Tomaso to design notable sports cars like the Miura P400 and the Maserati Tipo 151.

Currently there are about 60 continuing students from IUPUI and 200 students who started the program in the past two fall terms. Enrollment for fall 2026 is expected to surpass the 2025 cohort. The Eiteljorg Museum’s annual Christmas tradition, “Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure,” returns to Indianapolis on Nov. 15, 2025 running until Jan. 29, 2026. Indiana lawmakers delivered a rare rebuke to President Donald Trump on Thursday, Dec. 11, voting down a controversial mid-cycle redistricting bill that would have dramatically reshaped Indiana’s congressional map and weakened the political influence of Indianapolis residents, including thousands of students at IU Indianapolis.

The Indiana Senate rejected the bill 31–19, with 21 Republicans joining all 10 Democrats in opposition. The vote ended months of pressure from Trump and his allies, who pushed aggressively for new maps that would have increased Republican control of the state’s congressional delegation ahead of the 2026 midterms.

🍂Did you know? 🍂

Colleges that experience “leafy” falls tend to see an influx of college tours during the Autumn season. This “leafy” factor could potentially contribute to a students decision to apply or enroll at a university, though it does play a subjectively minimal role.
