We have very slick bridges and county roads this morning across Indiana. Anything untreated, including parking lots and driveways are icy with light snow on top.

IU head football coach Curt Cignetti is not known for holding his tongue, and he lived up to that reputation in his pre-Rose Bowl press conference with Alabama's Kalen DeBoer on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

“The last two days have been disruptive," Cignetti said to open the press conference, held in Pasadena the day before the Rose Bowl. "I feel like there’s a lot of loose ends we’ve got to tie together today.”

Cignetti is unhappy with the college playoff format, which involves traveling to various Bowl-game sites.

"We've never had a great practice, first day on-site. Ever," Cignetti said. "It wasn't a horrible practice, but it wasn't good. That's why I feel the urgency to get it right today."

Cignetti mentioned there could be changes to the format coming in the new contract for the college playoffs. The playoff nature of the game was the focus of the Cignetti, who acknowledged the history of the Rose Bowl but wanted to look past it.

"I respect the Rose Bowl and the tradition," Cignetti said. "But this is a playoff game."

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said he liked the energy his team showed in their practice after arriving in California.

"That's what I really look forward to," DeBoer said. "Stress communication and just all that. I thought they came with the right intention."

Both coaches acknowledged the unusual, rainy forecast for the Rose Bowl game on Jan. 1.

"We've just got to adapt," DeBoer said.

"I don't expect it to be a critical factor in the game," Cignetti said.

In a press conference the day before the game, Cignetti repeatedly mentioned how the schedule for the game has hindered preparations.
