Indianapolis-based developer RealAmerica says it remains committed to the Stadium Flats apartment project in downtown South Bend after a fire damaged the property Tuesday.

“This is a setback for the project, but we will move forward, rebuild what is necessary and complete the development," President Michael Surak said.

RealAmerica is still assessing the damage and does not yet have an estimate of the losses. Stadium Flats is a $23 million apartment development with 92 market-rate units.

SEE INSIDE: The new $25 million Surack–Sweetwater Music Industry Center is now open at Purdue Fort Wayne.

The building includes a custom Neve 88RS console with Dolby Atmos capabilities, which the university said is one of only two of its kind in the world. The other is at Abbey Road Studios in London.

"Being able to draw students in from this area, educate them in a number of ways to be part of the music industry, and then put them back into the community, I feel that it just really closes the loop of growth and possibility," said Elisabeth Honn Hoegberg, dean of Purdue Fort Wayne’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Manufacturing has historically been the backbone of the Indiana economy, and three major manufacturing companies have recently celebrated building on that legacy.

SK Hynix Inc. officially broke ground on a more than $4 billion semiconductor packaging plant, Rolls-Royce celebrated $1 billion worth of investment in Indianapolis and Caterpillar Inc. detailed plans to invest $890 million in Lafayette.

Jay Wirts, CEO of Conexus Indiana, said the multibillion-dollar investments being made in Indiana showcase the state's manufacturing sector as "an absolute world leader."
