Antik One

Antik One Badass Drum & Bass/Jungle/nerofunk/ragga/jump up/whatever-pleases-him-aurally DJ hailing from Indiana, christened in Tucson, AZ.

Antik One was first introduced to the world of electronic music in the remote desert of Tucson, AZ in the late 90s. The ground shook with the bass, drawing him in and embedding in his soul like a nasty piece of jumping cactus. Flashing lights and the heavens above danced with him as found his second family in the rave community. Inspired by chance encounters with DJs Radar and Z-Tip during his fi

rst party that just happened to be a Moon Tribe event, Antik One set about to shape the sounds that would continue to breath life into the rave community like a mother's womb. West Coast Drum & Bass, breaks, acid house and goa-trance would provide the soundtrack to the rest of his time in AZ. Once transplanted to Indiana, Antik found support from fellow deck warriors Seth & Mac at Evolving Records. Like many aspiring musician, Antik spent years honing his craft and developing his skills before his sound was ready for the masses. Starting in 2012 he began playing small shows around Indianapolis at The Melody Inn and The Emerson Theater. While Drum & Bass is Antik One's passion, he has been exploring a wider variety of chilled out, flow-friendly tunes including electro-swing and the bouncier sounds of tech house and breaks. The results are mood altering, expanding ,and complimenting. The only thing they won't do is fail to move your feet.

PHEW! I made it guys. It took all week but I finally shook the rest of the sticky, clay mud from Highbridge, Wisconsin outta my brain (and off the majority of our camp gear). What an incredible experience attending Even Furthur (Courtesy of Drop Bass Network, Woody McBride and David Prince) was last...

The Bumblebee bringing the buzz to your ear holes.

by Courtney LaFavor
Ah Monday, we meet again. If you’re reading this from the midwest, chances are likely that you experienced a bit of the white stuff this weekend, and if you’re lucky it was the first time all season! Winter lovers rejoice! Now if you’re not a huge fan of digging out your vehicle in the frozen morning darkness, you have my condolences, but
you also have the warm embrace of some ear loving from Bumblebee for this week’s NAPCast! She’s going to put this one on a slow boil to get you nice and thawed out in time to burn it up Tuesday when we return to The Mel for Tabali Tigi.
Subtlety is the name of the game on this mix. From beginning to end Bumblebee works mixes long to let them settle down right in your heart and let you really dig on them. Even when the tunes are light and understated, they are still consuming your attention. My favorite part about this mix is the way key is used to move the vibe and intensity of the mix. The opening is quiet and reserved, enticing you to let it wrap around and pull you into it for the next hour. As the melody oscillates between minor keys, there is a bit of tension that’s allowed to develop. But it feels safe inside. This mix excels that leading you by the hand into some of the more up front and in charge tunes that give lift and excitement to it. As it peaks, Bumblebee keeps things approachable with sweet funk infusion and shimmering vocals. Even at it’s heaviest, this mix does not feel IN YOUR FACE or aggressive in the slightest. Tunes draw each other out and round out the fullness that all that bass is intending to give. I have a really strong feeling that this mix is going to go into long term rotation and I can see it staying with me all the way to this year’s Best Of run down! I am also confident that it will give you the inspiration to venture out into the brisk winter air on Tuesday and come help us help Rob keep heating costs down inside The Mel by filling it with body heat!
