Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the will open its doors on September 22, 2026, in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park.
Designed by visionary architect Ma Yansong (MAD Architects) with gardens by Mia Lehrer (Studio-MLA), this stunning 300,000-square-foot museum will celebrate one of humanity’s oldest and most universal traditions—storytelling through art.
“The Lucas Museum seeks to explore how stories connect people and capture the human experience,” says Lucas. “Stories are mythology, and when illustrated, they help humans understand the mysteries of life.”
The museum’s collection spans more than 40,000 works, including pieces by Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, Kadir Nelson, N.C. Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, and icons of comic and cinematic art like Jack Kirby and Frank Frazetta. Visitors will also discover treasures from the Lucas Archives, featuring film props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas’s legendary career.
As Mellody Hobson shares, “This is a museum of the people’s art… our hope is that as people move through the galleries, they will see themselves, and their humanity, reflected back.”
A museum built for everyone—where imagination, art, and storytelling unite.
