As Black History Month approaches next week, we cannot continue to allow people to disrupt the transference of factual history any longer ‼️ I dont want to hear no “I didn’t learn this is school” “nobody taught me this” “this person said that” this Black History Month!! Tired of it! Black History Month was founded because factual history wasn’t being taught in schools. That is still the case today so we have to continue to get our information through alternative means! It is up to us to reeducate ourselves using works and media created by SCHOLARS who are COMMITTED to TRUTH and JUSTICE and to keep questioning why we believe the things we do. There are way too many resources out there for us to stay stuck with what some clown did or did not teach us way back when. This Black History Month is about STANDING ON BUSINESS!! Happy New Year BTS Press community!! 💚🖤🌱I’m sure many of us can relate to 2024 being a best of times/worst of times situation. Last year, Black people reached incredible new heights in the fields of arts, sports, music, and culture that will be studied for decades to come. At the same time, deeply entrenched systems of oppression have continued to harm and sow division between families and communities. In this precarious and tumultuous time, our choices matter now more than ever. We must be intentional in what we breathe life into and what we consume. Break the Seal Press was founded in 2022 to combat educational and economic inequality. Among many things, this publishing house is dedicated to investing in Black students, writers, and dreamers. We are recommitting to this struggle in 2025. We see the ways too many Black businesses have had to close their doors in 2024 because of a variety of issues. Nevertheless, BTS Press will continue to operate until the wheels fall off 🚍 We believe in the beauty of Black culture, life, and history and as we have said before, this work is not about generating endless profit off the backs of Black people. This work is about investing in Black and inclusive organizations that benefit people and the planet. When you support Break the Seal Press, you support youth literacy, community, and economic development. At a time when division and isolation feels like the easier way out, we must challenge ourselves to fight back against toxic masculinity, greed, and hate. It may seem daunting, but small positive actions add up. BTS Press will continue to share blog posts, content, and information to help counter the crumbling dying systems and ideologies that keep us from our highest Selves. We hope our supporters will gather strength from our work and feel inspired to spark change where they are too! As the old saying goes, there is power in unity! We are so excited to announce that Break the Seal Press will be moving to Atlanta, GA this month!! This move is exciting for two (of many) reasons: 1. Atlanta has an awesome legacy of impactful Black business and 2. Our Founder is starting her Masters Program in Africana Women’s Studies at THEE one and only Clark Atlanta University!!! This move to Atlanta will bring new expansion, new initiatives, and new opportunities to change the world through quality literature and economic development! I can’t wait!!! No we’re not shutting down the blog 😊 BTS Press friends, writing a quality blog is work I take very seriously. My purpose behind this blog is to inform, educate, and share information. I’m not in the business of making viral hot takes and posts for the sake of making posts. I would love to have a blog post ready every two weeks, and that is my goal. My current reality, however, is quality work takes time and there are only 24 hours in the day. That being said, BTS Press blog will be bi-weekly-ish until further notice in order to maintain the integrity of the blog and my mental health 🧘🏾‍♀️💯 I hope everyone understands and will still continue to tune in!!
