As it becomes painfully evident that so much construction is needed to repair, rebuild or totally replace hundreds of structures around the Hill Country, another partner is joining in to make that incredible task somewhat easier.Texas Building Supply location manager, Guy Bason, who has been here 31 years (through Foxworth Galbraith) said that like everyone else, their store is trying to be great neighbors in this hour of terrible need.“It’s a slow process,” Basom said. “We have brought in a lot of things to help with the cleanup such as safety equipment, hand tools, batterries, power tools, chain saws, gas cans, gloves ... anything we could think of.”While the supplies are not free, Basom added that “This is all at cost. USLMB, our parent company, has made a $100,000 donation to the Hill Country for this location. Just so people don’t think that it is free but there is no profit margin in this offer.”Basom said the supplies were being ordered Friday morning when Basom and his team found out.“I started calling my employees first to make sure that they were okay,” he said. “Then the higher ups, telling them we’re going to need some serious help here. It was a pretty fast turnaround for corporate.”Basom said the disaster was of an unfathomable scope.“I can see it, but I still can hardly believe it. But we are finding out how fine these folks are,” he added. After the loss of life from the smallest child to such pillars of the camping community as Jane Ragsdale and Dick Eastland, Basom noted, “There is not way to walk away from the sadness. We’re going to try and help in any way we can. We can do everything we can do.”
