Day 10: Clean Your Dryer Vent 🧺🏡
Your dryer works hard—especially in a Florida home where humidity can make clothes take longer to dry. But a clogged or restricted dryer vent can reduce efficiency, increase drying time, and create a serious fire hazard.
Today’s maintenance checklist:
✔️ Clean the lint screen after every load
✔️ Vacuum around the lint trap and dryer opening
✔️ Check the dryer vent hose for kinks or damage
✔️ Make sure the exterior vent flap opens when the dryer is running
✔️ Remove lint and debris from the exterior vent
✔️ Watch for clothes taking unusually long to dry
🌴 Florida Tip: Florida's humid climate can make drying times longer, but a sudden increase in drying time isn't something to ignore. If the vent isn't flowing properly or the ductwork is difficult to access, have it professionally cleaned and inspected.
🚨 Never operate a dryer with a damaged or improperly connected vent. Proper ventilation helps your dryer operate more efficiently and safely.
💡 Homeowner Reminder: Cleaning the lint screen is important—but it doesn't replace periodic cleaning of the entire dryer vent system.
