Here we go, July's flyer for children's art classes!

Some of you may wonder what exactly our themes will entail...while I won't give you specifics about the actual projects, I will share the basic concepts for each age group:

What is mixed media? A little bit of everything may be incorporated into our art: drawing, painting, sculpting, collage...a specific theme or topic will be chosen and we use multiple materials to create a final project(s). For example, if the theme is a scuba diver, students may choose to use any type of paint to color their picture, but one may use tissue paper to create seaweed, while their friend creates seaweed out of yarn...and their flippers are from scrapbook paper and then bubbles are created with acrylic paint markers. Basically, one size will not fit all artists:-)

What is process art? Just like it says - it is more about the child experiencing and exploring the theme as they see it, using a variety of art tools to bring their creation to life. For example, yesterday we created insects and one of the children chose to make Cookie Monster and Elmo bugs and used Kwik Stix, liquid glue, and googly eyes to bring them to life (it was pretty darn cute:-)

A little “backyard” fun at the Downtown Art Place with our young artists: Insects! Miss Susan shared a lot of great facts about these creepy but super useful critters and we worked right up to the last minute❤️

Note: this project is an excellent example of process art…we guide but the final product is all on the artist - so much fun 🦋🐞🐝🐜🦗🪲

Today we went to Africa through art at art camp (Downtown Art Place)…our 7-12 year olds created two different sunsets across the African Savana - one with tempera paints and oil pastels and the other on black cardstock with oil pastels…tap on the pics to zoom in and see the fabulous colors

Then we switched gears and made paper beads - holy moly, the amazing patience and perseverance of our artists blew us away! They had the option to make necklaces or bracelets - added some crafting beads for a finishing touch and they were spectacular!

On Thursday we will head to Australia…aboriginal hand art and designing our own boomerangs are on the agenda! If time allows, we may draw some penguins as not to ignore Antarctica😉🐧

July classes have been posted - this series has a cap of eight students, so don’t wait to get your artist registered😉

Good evening and Happy Monday! I have added some class dates, to be held at Downtown Art Place, for the month of July: three classes for ages 7-12 (rising 2nd graders would be welcome) and three classes for ages 4-6. Classes are grouped as a series and can be booked at the DAP website (choose series)😁

Mixed Media Summer Fun (drawing, painting, sculpting and collage)
Ages 7-12
Mondays: July 6th, 13th and 27th
10-11:30am

Summer Fun Process Art
(Artists will use a variety of art supplies to create original projects)
Ages 4-6
Wednesdays: July 8th, 15th and 29th

Ya girl’s been getting a little artsy craftsy at home too❤️. My hand painted coasters can be found at Lavinder Fields Floral & Garden Shop in downtown Ironwood, 323 S Lowell Street. I took a minute to pair them up with a few of my favs …Swedish dish cloths and some “smell good” soaps, creams, scrubs etc…because I’m all about accessorizing😉

Note: all coasters have felt on the bottom and they have two coats of sealant to help prevent chipping or discoloration 😁

Our grand finale…a bridal shower❤️. Thanks so much to Pam and Auburn (shower wedding coordinators😁) for choosing Birch, Please and Lavinder Fields for your venue. We painted flowers on a 12” round and they made beautiful fresh bouquets - a lot of fun all around.

And that’s a wrap on two years of getting crafty and creative with our little community. Thank you for all of your support - it’s been a lot of fun but we have new things on the horizon❤️

2.5 hours of giggles, singing and more giggles and my heart is full❤️. Our Juniors and More were given free reign of their canvases and we have many variations of pizza - and who am I to question the artists’ vision🤷‍♀️😜❤️. Pizza and painting was a great success and I hope that these girls cherish the memories of their time spent creating in our space (s) - I know that I certainly will🥰

Pizza, pizza! What an amazing grand finale to our Little Tots season - they have become so independent with the use of all the tools and their creativity knows no boundaries❤️. Yes, I’m dabbing away the tears, bursting with pride for these little artists. I was telling some of the parents that it’s weird to not be cruising through Pinterest, looking for new ideas🥲. It’s the end, for now - we will just have to wait & see how the chips fall this summer.

Our Juniors & More will meet tomorrow at 10:30am and we will have a mixed media fast food extravaganza on a big ol’ canvas - I cannot wait to see what they “cook up”!
