My show is called Madhaus Groove. It's on at 2pm pacific time TODAY RADIO THURSDAY and we are gonna rock it off the blocks.
Kuci is OC's public radio station, the one to tune in when emergencies occur. Community radio is descriptive but public radio is a legal term. We are mandated to have no monetary motivation for content and are obligated to have as broad and diverse content as possible so as to broadcast to as much of the population as possible.
I did my first radio show age 23 in 1983 in Indonesia. My students asked me to be faculty advisor for their new radio club which broadcast to Palangka Raya and the Borneo jungle, because it was the only town for dozens of miles. I taught English at their community college. When I agreed to advise they laughed and said "you first". I'm pretty quiet so I think they thought I would balk but I was undaunted and didn't think twice. It is a trait I'm gifted with, to make split decisions and then follow through and go all in. My friends say it's not safe. This is true sometimes for minor things, but big decisions like the radio or going to Indonesia or choosing to apprentice myself, big decisions do carry more risk but carry life changing benefits. It's a talent I'm lucky to have. Risk management is up there on my list of what I think is important. Safety is about 5. Except when driving. Doing stuff fast is overrated western propaganda I believe. Doing things well and right is more important. Health is even lower most of my life but I learned it wise to upgrade that.
You know how when you depart and they say, "bye bye. Be safe"?
My canned response is "why?". Ha ha. Gets not a laugh but quizical looks. That's kinda where I go with the radio show. I want people walk off wondering" what was THAT all about?" And end up thinking about it all day. I learned that creating meals for people, "wow, what just happened there" if the walkaway has a sense of wonder I succeeded.
