The City of Raton, New Mexico’s Jaden Welch and I just wrapped up a weeklong educational conference in Chicago on further enriching economically evolving regions like Northern New Mexico and Southen Colorado through cutting-edge brownfield remediation strategies.

Brownfields give our region a major advantage in mobilizing resources for a next-generation economy—so we’re building out two vibrant ecosystems: (1) well-hidden wrecker, salvage, and recycling enterprises (that help us get extra clean and green) and (2) prominent outdoor recreation, artisan manufacturing, and digital Creative Economy enterprises (that put us on the forefront in rural American innovation).

A very clear CORE message (challenges and opportunities for Raton entrepreneurs) is being shared by the economic development team and the City of Raton. We learned a lot and will be promoting these monthly meetings going forward. These CORE Mixers and Emergent Campus’ Tech Night Out are intended to provide opportunities to learn and network.
