Hearing about the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his role on "The Cosby Show," is genuinely devastating… He played a significant role in many of our childhood TV memories and exemplified authentic representation of Black American life in mainstream media, which was and still is profound!

Malcolm was exceptional, embodying high intelligence, integrity, and character within the industry. He was a highly regarded actor and activist, as well as an admirable individual who set a standard of excellence! Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to his family, friends, and fans… 🙏🏾🕊️

What a year it has been up to this point… 💔 It’s rare to find individuals who truly support you and your dreams in tangible ways that reflect commitment through their most valuable resources, time, and energy. When I introduced WATZS Productions to my Aunt Ruthie she stepped up for Kalisha and me in such an impactful, beautiful, and meaningful way - we lost her today, and we are incredibly grateful for the unwavering belief she had in our media vision and our capacity to achieve it by being fully grounded in our values of integrity, patience, and respect.

For those who took part in Frame of Reference, she was instrumental in managing our transportation for the project. Our Aunt Ruthie was old school, she was accountable, if she said she was going to do something, she did it. Her unwavering support, presence, and commitment to ensuring everyone was picked up and dropped off each day of filming will always hold a special place in our hearts. From the numerous flights she took to support our weekend workshops, we are incredibly thankful—especially for her expressive amazement at how we managed to get it all done. Her involvement in the editing process for Frame of Reference filled her with great joy as she saw firsthand what we accomplished together; it truly was something remarkable. Her faith in us—her belief in our family, ideas, stories—and the time and care we dedicated to both people and projects consistently left her speechless. We’re genuinely grateful that she had the opportunity to experience all of this…

She was filled with excitement regarding our developments and achievements as an independent media organization led by two Black women from Tulsa, OK. Aunt Ruthie often remarked that our entrepreneurial spirit was passed down to us from our great-grandmother, Texana Bennett. Embracing a vision that is bigger than our individual selves and nurturing it with great intention and purpose made her the proudest of all. As our family grieves her loss today, we will honor her memory by demonstrating our commitment and devotion to realizing a divine dream.

“Remmick: I am your way out. This world already left you for dead. Won’t let you build. Won’t let you fellowship. We will do just that. Together. Forever.” – SINNERS, a Ryan Coogler film.

I just experienced it in theaters again today for the fourth time, which is a first for me with any movie. I wanted to catch it on 70MM before it’s no longer available. Huge thanks cinemark Webb Chapel and Jacob for offering me a behind-the-scenes look at the setup prior to the next screening. Special appreciation also goes out to Dick, who traveled from London specifically for IMAX to prepare the film for each performance. Additionally, Cinemark is operating 24 hours a day to accommodate the viewing schedule so that as many viewers as possible can see it, and every single show during this 70MM comeback has sold out! People flew in from as close as Houston and as far as Brazil to Dallas to see it—now that’s extraordinary!!

I’ve got plenty of thoughts swirling around my head, but here are my most succinct ones...

– This film is a perfect film. Give Mr. Coogler his extra 1 point! 💯
– The use of metaphors is exceptional.
– It’s destined, excellent and intentional—maybe we should coin a new acronym: DEI?
– I’m currently experiencing one of my most profound creative moments, feeling and envisioning like never before.
– Protect your gifts and talents; we embody the culture and influence everything! Stay sober, deliberate, and avoid letting everyone in, no matter how alluring and tempting it seems; protect your gifts and your soul.
– Ryan Coogler and michaelbjordan are deserving of Oscars for best original screenplay and best lead actor; to me, they’ve already won those honors in so many of our eyes!! Proud of them!!

The WATZS team is wrapping up the year with a packed schedule, offering a unique look into their carefully curated process. Their docu-series, “It Was All A Dream,” which delves into the production of “Percy Masterson,” began last month and will extend through the end of this year, continuing until filming starts in Q2 2015.

This docu-series aims to give viewers insight into their business values rooted in integrity, patience, and respect. It highlights how they identify rising talent across the country while emphasizing the vital role of creative freedom that encourages complex storytelling from varied viewpoints—ultimately leading to more meaningful results for storytelling featuring Black Americans and minorities.

It was indeed all a dream.. Percy Masterson the sophomore drama series out of the WATZS drama portfolio of original concepts pays homage to the iconic character Perry Mason and recognizes the significant contributions of Historically Black Colleges and their law programs, as well as the profound impact of influential figures such as Thurgood Marshall. This docuseries aims to illuminate the richness and beauty of Black American legacies while addressing pressing issues that confront Black Americans today. Additionally, viewers will gain insight into the creative process behind the Zachery sister’s groundbreaking media house.
