We wrapped up filming for the week with the WASH Project at the West Side Value Laundromat. Zaw — a Burmese refugee —and his business partner Barrett provide art classes for children throughout the week. Zaw helps refugees in the area adjust to the country by helping them with English and teaching them things like credit and banking. Over the past few years they've turned a regular laundromat into an important community center.

We followed along with Journey's End case manager Farouk as he picked up a Burmese refugee family at the airport. Today, Mohammad, along with his wife and daughter, were reunited with his family after fifteen years. Mohammad was living in a refugee camp in Myanmar until getting clearance to join his father and niece in Buffalo, NY.

Today, Dani and Evin had the opportunity to shadow Journey's End case manager Bhim as he guided a refugee couple from Ethiopia on their first day in the United States. Activities included cashing a check at the bank, getting a phone, and shopping at the grocery store.

Hi everyone! Real2Reel is back, and this time, Dani and Evin are producing a documentary in Buffalo, NY. We are working on a 20-minute documentary thesis about the thriving refugee community in the city. In a world where refugees are looked at as threats to a community’s safety, Buffalo, nicknamed The City of Good Neighbors, has welcomed the newcomers and is thriving because of it. We want to use the film to show what benefits refugees bring to a community.
