Tulare City Council Member Sigala will be asking his council colleagues at the July 15th council meeting to consider agendizing a number of items he is bringing forward. The Tulare City Council has a process outlined in its procedures to allow for Council Members to bring forward items to be agendized for future meetings, if the request is approved by a majority of the council.

VISALIA’S RIGGIN AVENUE WIDENING PROJECT NEARING COMPLETION

Signal at Riggin Avenue and Giddings Street Will Remain in Flash

VISALIA, CA - Work on the Riggin Widening Project is nearly completed, with final work on striping, signage and traffic signal modifications wrapping the project up.

The traffic signal at Riggin Avenue and Giddings Street will remain in flash until the traffic signal modification is completed. Completion of the traffic signal modifications are anticipated to be completed near the end of July 2025.

“Traffic can proceed through the corridor like normal with construction crews directing traffic as necessary,” added Corvera. “Although the project appears entirely completed, works is still ongoing through the month of July, we ask that travelers be extra aware when traversing the construction areas and slow for the cone zone.”

Major traffic control elements have been removed and will be intermittent as needed to complete the work. Work is being performed by contractor Cen-Cal Construction and overseen by City of Visalia Building and Engineering Department staff.

Road updates will be available via the City of Visalia website at www.visalia.city/rigginmooney and on the City of Visalia’s social media channels, Facebook, Instagram, and X .

The Tulare County Board of Supervisors took the extraordinary move on July 1 to take over the Tulare Public Cemetery District, naming themselves as district trustees and terminating the existing cemetery trustees.

Supervisor Pete Vander Poel said the board “had a gun to their head” to seat themselves because the cemetery district would lose its insurance if there was not a change in governance. Without insurance, the cemetery would have to shut its gates.

The Valley Voice comes out tonight!

President Trump got his Big Beautiful Bill passed and on his desk by July 4. But soon after the emails piled up in my inbox expressing dread about the consequences of the bill - even by Congress member David Valadao who voted yes.

Congress member Costa said Republicans put billionaires and big corporations first at the expense of the people of the San Joaquin Valley.

Congressional candidate Randy Villegas running against Valadao said Valadao just voted to rip healthcare away from over 65,000 of our most vulnerable neighbors, friends and family.

The Central Valley Foodbank sent out a press release saying, “The newly passed budget reconciliation bill is a significant setback for the 314,000 children, seniors, and neighbors across Central California Food Bank’s 5-county service area who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to feed their families healthy and nutritious meals.”

Even Visalia Unified responded to the bill’s passage, “Visalia Unified School District (VUSD) was notified about the potential early implementation of federal funding cuts originally proposed in the 2026 Federal Budget. These reductions may affect the 2024-2025 District budget, which recently closed.”

Fortunately VUSD has a reserve to cover emergencies.

Valadao said about the bill, “the Senate version of the budget reconciliation bill ultimately made more changes to Medicaid than the House-passed version, and I had several concerns.”

Looks like not many people are embracing the “Beautiful” aspect of Trump’s agenda.

In local news there are lots of Fourth of July celebrations to choose from today and tomorrow. Word is that the Visalia celebration was fun, well organized and they put on a great drone show.

In this week’s issue Catherine Doe writes about the Tulare County Board of Supervisors holding their final vote to take over the Tulare Public Cemetery District. Up to the last minute the blame game and finger pointing continued during the TCBOS Public Hearing and differing opinions were batted around on who is the common denominator in this decade’s long mess.

You can find all the Health, Entertainment and Ag news is in this week's issue of the Valley Voice!

STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE RANDY VILLEGAS ON REP DAVID VALADAO VOTING TO SLASH MEDICAID FOR OVER 65,000 CENTRAL VALLEY RESIDENTS

KERN COUNTY, CA —Today, Congressional candidate Randy Villegas (CA-22) issued the following statement in response to Rep David Valadao voting to gut Medicaid:

“David Valadao promised over and over again that he would not vote to cut Medicaid. He lied. He just voted to rip healthcare away from over 65,000 of our most vulnerable neighbors, friends and family who rely on this essential health care.

I grew up on Medi-Cal. I know exactly what it means to a working family, to a sick child, to an aging parent. This vote isn’t just a betrayal – it’s a slap in the face to the very people Valadao was elected to represent. If Valadao has the audacity to ever show his face in this district again, he’s going to have to answer to the people.

I’ve never been more fired up to send him packing, and to give the Central Valley the leadership it deserves – someone who will fight in Congress like lives depend on it. Because for tens of thousands of people here, they do.”
