The Heart of Christmas
Before we close out our Foundations week of Christmas planning, we need to talk about the most important foundation of all.
The heart of Christmas.
For those of us who celebrate Christmas as the birth of Christ, this is not just another holiday tradition. It is the reason for the season.
Several years ago I made a simple shift that completely changed how I experience Christmas.
I stopped thinking of Christmas as just December 25.
Instead, I started embracing it as a season of celebration.
The season begins with Advent, a time of preparation where we slow down and intentionally bring Christ into our homes through prayer, scripture, kindness, and reflection.
Then Christmas Day arrives and the celebration actually begins. The Twelve Days of Christmas carry us all the way to Epiphany on January 6, reminding us that Christmas is not meant to be rushed through in one day.
When we celebrate the full season, something beautiful happens.
The pressure decreases.
The meaning increases.
And our hearts stay focused on Who we are celebrating.
If you would like to read more about how Advent, Christmas Day, and the Twelve Days of Christmas can create a more meaningful and less stressful season, I shared more in today's post.
