AITA for "ghosting" my son financially after he "ghosted" me?

My son went a few states over for college this year. I get it - he doesn't want to check in with Dad every day and wants to do his own thing. My issue is that I am paying for him to do his "thing" and want to know what's going on. I am not pushy. It's like he ghosted me. My ex is not helpful because she will just send him whatever he wants, no questions asked. She's broke though so the only time he responds or contacts me is when he has no one else to ask. I got tired of it so I cut him off financially. Now he's in a bind because he was counting on money coming that ain't coming. I've done more for that brat that his mom and I feel the best way to teach him a lesson is to struggle. Also, I want this to be an example to his younger brothers.

Edit: The money he was counting on was for a Thanksgiving flight back home. I took that off the (Thanksgiving) table so now he's either can fly home or not eat until December.

Edit: I hear from him no more than once a week and most of it is his asking for money. And I am the one calling. He calls his mom and games with his younger brothers. That b__tard called me up today to ask me about buying a safe and I missed his call. I called him back three times and not once did he pick up. Dude, you...

AITA for not picking the restaurant my cousin wanted?

I (25f) just recently received a great promotion at work and I'm really excited about it. Because of this I decided to invite some family out to dinner to celebrate. I chose a steakhouse and when my cousin, Aria (32f) found out it was a steakhouse called me to let me know that I had to pick a different restaurant.

When I asked why she explained it was because she was vegan, gluten-free, and also has a few allergies and couldn't trust that they wouldn't cross-contaminate her food. I explained to her that there were vegan and gluten free options and we could let the restaurant know of her allergies so everything would be fine. She refused saying it doesn't make a difference and told me if I don't pick a different restaurant she wouldn't attend and hung up.

This has happened in the past as well, whenever I want to go out to a restaurant whether it's for an event or a birthday she has an issue with it and has been doing this since I was younger. I remember when I turned 16 she told my parents that I had picked a restaurant she couldn't eat at. Because of this my parents let her pick where we went for my birthday and she picked one of my least favourite restaurants and I had no fun.

To be honest, I don't really care if she attends or not so I texted her and let her know that I wouldn't be changing the restaurant. Because of this shes been going absolutely feral and texting others...

[UPDATE] Wife started to hate me and our kids out of a sudden and now she left us.

A lot of people seem to care and I got a ton of encouraging messages, so I will post an update for you.

We live in northern Europe, for those that asked.

Thanks for everyone that gave me their advice. A lot of you have assumed schizophrenia or the rare Capgras delusion. Some of you assumed she was cheating which is something I won’t even address.

Thinking about it, Capgras really fitted the symptoms but I couldn’t just accept that, still hoping she was somehow f__king with us or that it was something mild and temporary and I just overreacted.

After they took her in, i drove to the mental institute to give an exact explanation of what happened in the last week. The psychiatrist assumed some sort of schizophrenia. They told me they will look after her and I should go home to my children. I felt like i was drunk the entire time, I couldn’t close a single eye at night.

The psychiatrist called me yesterday evening and asked me to come to her office. I left my children with their grandparents and drove for what it felt like an eternity.

She told me straight up that she strongly assumes that its Capgras. She never saw a case of Capgras before but it fits everything she gathered. She explained to me how the past 2 days went down.

My wife arrived there, being extremely hostile. She was put in a 'safe room' where she couldn't hurt herself. She calmed down after a...

AITA for not putting my inheritance toward my step daughter’s college fund?

I’m 30f, and I’ve been married to my husband (42) for a year. We’ve been together three years total. He has a daughter that just turned 16 and a son that’s 14. His son is special needs, and requires full time care. The kids live with their mother most of the time.

My dad died when I was in high school; he’d been sick a long time and he planned for the end well in advance. My sister and I had a trust set up for our inheritance. Once we were 18 we received $2500 a year. The rest was off limits until we turned 30. Dad wanted us to be responsible before we got the majority of the money, so we wouldn’t just waste it in our early 20s. The inheritance is, well, substantial. Dad was an entrepreneur with a lot of successful businesses. Not enough to live off of forever, but it’s a good safety net and an investment for the future.

I’ve had plans for the money for a while. I want to pursue a PhD, which has been a long term goal, and use the money to upgrade our home, and, my biggest goal of all, adopt a child. The rest will be split into my retirement and savings.

While we usually have shared finances, the inheritance is 100% mine and is in its own bank account. My husband has no legal right to it. That being said, most of my plans for the money involve him as well, obviously. I’ve been upfront about the money since we met, as well...

AITA for refusing to return a Christmas gift from my grandmother?

I (19F) have a cousin that's one year younger than me. Her mom and my dad are siblings and very close, and we're both only children so we were raised practically like sisters. So, our Nana would always make us come on different days before Christmas to make us open our presents from her.

Maybe to make sure we never saw each other's stuff as we opened them. But later I would go to my cousin's house and see her with all of these nice, wonderful gifts and get confused and upset. My stuff was never that nice or expensive.

After a few years, I began to realize that I was getting the second best stuff. If my cousin got Nike shoes for Christmas, I would get $10 shoes from a local store. If she got a new camera, I would get a disposable one. My clothes wouldn't be namebrand like hers.

She would even get more than me sometimes. I tried really hard not to let it bother me, but it was hard not to get jealous when I saw her stuff constantly. Last year, I got into an argument with my Nana and blew up on her. I accused her of favoritism and demanded we not get Christmas presents this year from her.

We were old enough not to need presents and I always felt like she got mine more out of obligation than joy. She denied it strongly but said she would 'try harder if I felt like that'. I agreed to another Christmas with her. A week ago, I went...

AITA for being shirtless around my roommate's GF and refusing to stop?

Ok so some background. Ever since high school I'd walk around without my shirt or socks on when I'm just relaxing in my own home since I have hyperhidrosis and I sweat terribly through my armpits and feet and I dont like wearing damp clothes (IDK why it just really bothers me, I change socks like 3 times a day). In college I was self-conscious about my family always hounding me to eat more and put on weight so I started working out and never stopped, so I got reasonably large, as one would expect. Later, I moved in with my current roommate who at the time was single but eventually got a girlfriend. In the past I'd usually put on a shirt when I'm just chilling in the living room but I never put a shirt on when I'm hanging out in my room and I'm just leaving to grab a drink or something. When his GF first started coming over to the apartment I'd obviously make sure I looked presentable (showered, fully clothed, etc), but then she started coming over regularly and I started to get more comfortable with her. One day she was over again (at this point she started practically living here) and I finally thought "Nah I dont need to throw a shirt on to go get a drink". So I left my room no shirt or socks and did my business, while they watched Netflix on the living room coach. I did this throughout the day to make a sandwich or dinner or to grab another drink or something. Sometimes I'd make...

AITA for pouring my root beer down the sink so my stepdad couldn’t have it?

I’m 15, I have 2 summer jobs and I also baby sit in the evenings. I’m trying to save as much money as I can and also be out the house because my mom pretty much hates me and I hate my stepdad.

I bought a root beer on the way home from my pet grooming job and it was a fancy one in those kind of old timey wimey glass bottles. I left it in the fridge and went upstairs to shower.

When I came back down I said hi to everyone and pulled the soda out to drink. I took the cap off and my mom said I’m not allowed to drink it because I hadn’t had dinner yet. I wasn’t hungry, and I honest to god hate sitting with them and eating while they make out in front of me and he touches her t**s up, it’s just gross.

I told her I would drink my soda and also have dinner but she said no. I’m not letting you drink soda in my house, you don’t eat, etc etc. My stepdad laughed and said here I’ll help you out and drink your soda for you. He went to grab it so I walked straight to the sink and poured it all down.

They both immediately started yelling at me and my mom called me a little b__ch. I said it was my soda and my money and if I couldn’t drink it I got to choose where it went.

She grounded me and I’m in my room right now. She...

AITAH for wanting to divorce my husband after bullying, accusing me and requiring a DNA test after giving birth to our twin?

My husband (33 m) and I (23f) have been together for almost 7 years and he is/was the lolm. we met when I was 16 fresh out of HS going to college, he met my family when I was 18. I was a virgin and we couldn’t be intimate without getting married ( we’re Muslim btw), he proposed when I was 20 and we got married when I was 22 right after graduating from grad school, I never wanted to be a stay at home mom or wife( b4,we even began to date, he was aware of my expectations) . From 2017 to the end of February 2024, my husband was loving, caring, supportive and handsome. he was my best friend, my mentor. He is an engineer and I work in finance, we ( mostly him) built a house from the ground together, we have a garden where we don’t have to buy fruits and veggies, I was his princess. On November 2023, I saw my face was getting swollen and my belly became longer than usual, I didn’t really paid attention because I was blooded. 6 days later, I ended up at the hospital bc I wasn’t feeling normal, the doctor told me that I was pregnant. Husband was soo happy!! I didn’t know how to feel about it but I was happy just because he was. He took great care of me, he went over and beyond to make sure that I was happy specially when he found out that I was caring a pair of babies and I was grateful for that. This relationship was...

AITA for telling my parents to return my meds or i’ll file a police report?

I (21m) had a surgical removal of a cyst this afternoon. Mine had a pretty n__ty infection, so it had to be removed ASAP. I went to the hospital with my fiancé (19m), and my parents (62 M) (57 F). Everything went very smoothly thankfully, but as my parents were driving me and my fiancé back to our apartment, we got into a discussion about the medication i was prescribed.

Now, my parents are paranoid when it comes to anything addictive. I don’t blame them, i’m aware that hydrocodone is incredibly addictive, and am wary of it myself. They straight up told me that i shouldn’t take it at all, and just take Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I told them i’d rather have the medication i was prescribed just in case my pain got bad once the hospital meds wore off.

I wasn’t allowed to drive after my surgery, so they were supposed to pick up my medication for me. Well, they did. but with two of my hydrocodone pills missing.

well. that’s fishy. and annoying. i texted my mom basically asking where the pills went. she didn’t respond so i kinda forced it by telling her i’d have to report the pharmacist if it wasn’t her

She said, “I took the other 2” and, “i took them because thats all you can legally have and drive (fiancé) to work tomorrow” and then “ok?” wow. i had set money aside for him to be able to get an uber tomorrow if he needed to anyways. Which she would’ve known, had she talked to me about...

AITA for making my relative pay for his uninvited guests' dinner?

I recently graduated from college and to celebrate this accomplishment, my family and I chipped in to have a buffet for my immediate family and some extended relatives and my godmother (also a distant relative) on a very nice restaurant. It's not exactly cheap so everything is accounted for and we informed them that those who are invited are the only ones who can eat. On the day of the celebration, to our surprise, my godmother brought in 3 co-workers of hers.

They are total strangers to me. My dad said he would just pay for the surprise guests but I put my foot down on it and pulled my godmother aside and told her she would have to pay for the guest she brought because we only have the budget for the people we originally invited. She told me to consider it and this is a celebration, no need to be cheap about it.

I firmly told her No. She would either have to leave or pay for them. She replied 'Okayy fine' After the 3 hours buffet, when it is time for billing, I specifically told the waiter to only account the original number of guests we reserved and the 3 extras will be on a separate payment.

My godmother was furious that we didn't relent and pay for her co-workers. She started ranting about it. But my dad told me and my mom to go home and he will deal with my godmother.

After that incident, my phone was blown with texts from my godmother who told me I embarrassed her...
