Thank you to Dave Alan of Kalamazoo for continuing to choose VIRTUE Drums. He spent a substantial amount of time at the shop trying and comparing a wide variety of top-quality cymbals and ultimately decided to take home this Bosphorus 19” Black Pearl.

Another stellar used drum set you can snag at the shop right now: Yamaha Stage Custom 5pc with Birch shells in “Honey Amber” lacquer finish. Sizes are 10”x7, 12”x8, 14”x13, 20”x17, and 14”x5.5 snare drum. Minty fresh condition and the heads have been upgraded to Evans G2 Coated on the toms and Evans UV1 / Aquarian Regulator on the bass drum, so better than new really at ~$340 off the new price!

Sure, you could choose to remain in the fields of vintage ignorant bliss. Or you could choose to open your eyes and pursue the rewarding path of excellence and perpetual improvement.

Bailey Scott chose the latter with this Rogers Holiday 13”x9 mounted tom. The remarkably uneven edges were trued and lightly reshaped to improve the drum’s tone, response, ease of tuning, and stability. Also a few of the original lugs had broken due to their unfortunate folded tab design, so those were replaced with modern diecast models ( ).

Recently had the privilege of improving this DW Collectors Eco-X Bamboo Snare Drum for Jon Steinhoff of Metro Detroit.

The edges were trued and re-shaped with a large outer roundover to allow it to marry-up well with drumheads and create a warmer, richer sound. The snare beds were also modified to create a more articulate, responsive instrument. Cleaned things up, installed new Evans drumheads, quality snare wires, and swapped out the rusty True Pitch tension rods so it can continue to serve him well.

Got this vintage Gretsch COB 14”x6.5 snare drum back up and running for Derek Stanton of Time Creep by swapping out the broken Micro-Sensitive throw off, installing Remo Classic Fit drumheads (which work well with these oversized shells), and some Fat Cat premium snare wires. Thanks so much for your continued support, Derek, and enjoy playing and recording with your sweet snare drum!

Honored to help get Jon Steinhoff’s kit ready for a reunion tour with Empire! Empire! including a date sharing the stage with Jimmy Eat World at the in Las Vegas.

He wanted the 22”x18 bass drum cut down and we landed at a 13” depth for a more responsive, punchy boom. The bearing edges were all trued up and reshaped with large outer roundovers to make ‘em sound great, tune easy, and hold tension much better. We also swapped out the stock rims for some heavier triple flanged hoops and installed new Evans drumheads all the way around. Now they’re properly ready to rock n roll!

Had the honor of working on a 60’s Gretsch Round Badge kit for repeat customer Zach Strong of the Toledo area (13”/16”/20”/14”x5).

The primary task was to level and reshape the bearing edges, including a large outer round-over for the bass drum instead of the original 30-degree inner cut, a larger round-over on the snare drum, and slight inner cuts on the classic tom profile.

The original snare beds were crazy-deep at ~7mm, so those were dialed in at a more sensible depth and re-shaped for improved versatility and better response from the drum.

This era of Gretsch shells are a bit oversized, so the wrap overlap was notched out to allow heads to sit more evenly and fit better. Also added new Remo Classic Fit heads on the entire kit which help when shells are oversized.

Lastly a modern Micro-Sensitive Throw Off was fitted to replace the original which was being held shut with a rubber band. The new ones have a locking mechanism that can be released with a push-button, but otherwise retro-fit perfectly.
