Had the honor of modifying this 22” Pearl Masters Mahogany Classic bass drum for repeat customer James Madaski of Lansing. He’s had this kit for a couple decades but didn’t like the sluggish response of the 18” depth bass drum, so we removed ~5” from the reso side to improve the tone and response of the instrument.

The edges were leveled and reshaped and we also took the opportunity to implement our signature Timbre-Ring™ design, allowing the shell to open up and respond more dynamically to the player, while still retaining a thick, warm tone.

Truly appreciate your continued support, James! It’s always a pleasure to chat with another drummer that’s dialed into the nuance of their instrument and I hope you enjoy playing your newly modified bass drum!

Customers coming back with more drums for bearing edge work makes the clearest case for the value it adds. Yet another example of that today courtesy of Dave Jeffries from metro Detroit.

I previously reworked his main Gretsch Renown kit and after experiencing the significant improvements in tone, range, ease of tuning, and tension stability, he decided to have the edges trued and reshaped on his back up Gretsch Catalina Club set. He also had me drill and install an XLR jack in the side of his bass drum shell to make gigging that much easier.

VIRTUE: Humility™ 14”x5.5 Walnut Snare Drum, featuring our signature Timbre-Ring™. This original design yields exceptionally warm, open tone by utilizing a thick, asymmetrical round-over edge, allowing the drum to demonstrate a “pre-EQ’d” sound with superior shell resonance when compared to drums with traditional reinforcement rings or thicker shells, while also minimizing the increase in pitch and reduced sensitivity that is inherent in those other shell designs.
