JCWGA concluded a week of Match play at Sharp Park with Andrea Clark winning the Red Championship Flight 3 & 2 over Ashley Bearden.

"I've been playing in this tournament since I was 13", said Andrea Clark. "It's summer and it's fun. I grew up out here, and I like Sharp Park", commented Clark. "I like competing but it's getting more difficult as I get older." Clark, who has won this tournament multiple times, drives the ball beautifully, but it's her short game that she relies on.

For many of the women playing in the JCWGA, winning is secondary to competing and enjoying the presence of their comrades. "It's just an enjoyable time to play with a bunch of wonderful women", said Anne Faucher. "I also love competing and it's an opportunity to challenge yourself."

"This tournament and the JCWGA means friendship, it means competition, and it means fun", said Pam Messerly. Messerly, now 62, has been playing golf for 40 years and enjoys playing several times throughout the week. Pam has a solid golf game, averaging in the mid to low 80's, and she considers driving the ball to be her strength.

Jackson College Trounce Cuyahoga CC 73-45; Play Lansing CC Sunday, winner advances to Nationals in North Carolina

Given the close proximity and familiarity, there is no love lost between Jackson and Lansing Community College women's basketball teams. They will face each other Sunday 1:30pm at Mott Community College in the Great Lakes District A Championship game. The winner will pack its bags to travel and participate in NJCAA Championship in North Carolina, the loser looks to next season. The 20-11 Jackson College Jets will be looking to redeem a January 7th, 67-62 loss to the Lansing Community College Stars, who boast a 26-3 won-lost record. Jackson College Women's Basketball prepare for the heart of the 2026 schedule.
"We are starting to play our best basketball", said Head Coach Heather Brown. "Our players are developing some team chemistry, while also, determining their roles." Despite utilizing her bench throughout the season, Brown will have to receive major contributions from her starters, Reese Williams, Nina Sims, Tyra Wright, Naomi Henderson and Amari Daniel, to find success in the last month of the season. The 15-9 (6-3) Lady Jets travel to St. Clair County Community College on Wednesday, February 11 with hopes of avenging a 79-73 homes loss on January 17th. A contest which the Jets led until the final minute of play. On Feb 21st, the Jets must travel to play the undefeated Schoolcraft Ocelots (23-0), aiming to compete for 40 minutes. Schoolcraft dominated Jackson last month 93-64.
There is an air of optimism in the Jet's camp. "We know we have the personnel to compete", added Coach Brown. "We need our players to play big in big games."

Jackson College Women Basketball Dominate, Prepare for Tough February
Jackson College suffered a tough 79-73 loss against St Clair County Community College (SC4) on January 17th, but has since bounced back to defeat Henry Ford and Mott Community College by a combined total of 63 points. "We are getting there", said Jets Head Coach Heather Brown. "There's still work to be done, but it seems like we are finally playing better." The Jets face a ranked Schoolcraft team on January 28th, which will require their best effort in order to come away victorious. Reese Williams and Nina Sims have been leading the way for the Jets, but Brown has utilized her entire bench in both lopsided wins.
