UPDATE. TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT AND ARREST

Around 1:30 PM, Jackson Police officers attempted to stop a vehicle near North Parkway and Highway 70 after identifying a suspect with an active warrant. The driver refused to stop, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed near the Burger King on Dr. F.E. Wright Drive at I-40. He then ran from police on foot and attempted to carjack a customer in the parking lot before officers took him into custody.

No injuries were reported.

We want to thank our partner agencies for their support in this pursuit and apprehension: Madison County Sheriff’s Department, FBI, ATF, and THP.

Multiple Agencies on Scene After Armed Robbery & Shooting in Bells, Please Stay Away From the Area

BELLS, TN — August 23, 2026 The community woke up to devastating news this morning. A violent crime has shaken Bells, TN, and right now every resource available is being poured into finding answers.

The CCSD, Bells PD, TBI, JPD, 28th District Attorney’s Office, ATF, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and FBI are all on scene continuing to investigate the armed robbery and shooting that occurred this morning at Exxon Safari Corner Market/McDonald’s in Bells, TN.

This continues to be a very active crime scene, and authorities are asking everyone to please avoid this area, these businesses and the area are temporarily closed.

Again, please do not attempt to come to the scene. Allow these agencies to investigate this violent crime without having to redirect unnecessary traffic.

IT’S GOOD TO BE THE KING… AND NOW IF YOUR JERRY LAWLER THERE’S A STREET TO PROVE IT.

Most every wrestling fan knows the name Jerry “The King” Lawler.

But if you grew up around Memphis, you probably know the name a little differently.

You didn’t just know Lawler as a WWE Hall of Famer.

You knew him as Memphis wrestling.

Now there’s a street sign to make it official.

A portion of Homer Street between Given Avenue and Rhea Avenue near Treadwell has been honorarily renamed Jerry “The King” Lawler Street.

Lawler grew up nearby and attended Treadwell High School. The kid who walked these streets dreaming about wrestling eventually got a street of his own.

So, if you were a Memphis wrestling fan back in the day:

👑 Who was Lawler’s greatest Memphis rival?

Bill Dundee? Austin Idol? Dutch Mantell? Jimmy Valiant? Somebody else?
…

What Jerry Lawler moment do you remember most?

The piledriver? The feud with Andy Kaufman? The glory days of Memphis Championship Wrestling? His WWE years?

Or maybe it was simply hearing that unmistakable voice and knowing The King had arrived.

If you could sit ringside for ONE Jerry Lawler match from his Memphis days, which one would you choose?

JACKSON POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A ROBBERY TURNED DEADLY SHOOTING

August 21, 2026 : Jackson Police are investigating after an armed robbery turned deadly Thursday night at Ridgecrest Cellars on Ridgecrest Road.

Officers responded around 9 p.m. to reports of a robbery and shooting. According to witnesses, a suspect entered the business, demanded cash from employees, and opened fire after receiving the money.

The sole victim is identified as a store employee Suresh Patel, 56,.

The suspect is described as a Black male wearing a gray hoodie, jeans, and black work boots. His face was covered with a paintball style mask. He was last seen fleeing the scene in a white sedan.

Venomous Snake Found Coiled Inside Football Player’s Helmet After He Wore It Through Practice

The unsettling discovery happened during a team practice at Maumelle High School, where a football player began complaining of persistent discomfort inside his helmet. When he finally pulled it off and alerted his coaching staff, they found a two foot long cottonmouth, also known as a water moccasin, coiled deep within the padding. The player had already run roughly an hour of drills in the heat with the snake resting directly against his head.

Rather than attempt to remove the venomous reptile on their own, the school’s athletic director called in local authorities. Officers from Maumelle Animal Services responded and found the snake wedged tightly beneath the helmet’s interior padding. To coax it out safely, handlers submerged the helmet and flooded it with water, eventually flushing the snake free.

Remarkably, the player walked away without a single bite or injury. Cottonmouths rank as the second most venomous snake native to Arkansas, behind only the rattlesnake, making the outcome all the more fortunate.

The snake was safely captured and released in a heavily wooded area far from school grounds. In the aftermath, coaches called a team safety meeting, urging players to thoroughly check their equipment for bugs, spiders and snakes before suiting up. Cottonmouths are drawn to dark, cool and enclosed spaces, and wildlife officials say a stored football helmet can look like an inviting place to hide.

Update on MCSD MANHUNT FIR ESCAPE PRISONER

This evening, with the assistance of the
Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Derrion Jerrod Jones was apprehended and is now back in the
custody of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help locating Derrion Jerrod Jones, 35, who fled from a courtroom today shortly after being taken into custody.

Jones was appearing in court around 12:17 p.m. for a previous DUI charge — he had been out on a $1,000 bond. During the proceedings, it came out that he’d violated the conditions of that bond, so court security officers arrested him right there in the courtroom.

That’s when Jones took off, escaping the building and the area. He was last connected to a gray 2024 Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows, TN plate BVX-7306. That car has since turned up at a residence in Cordova, TN, but Jones himself has not been found.

Description: Black male, 35 years old.

Manhunt underway after suspect flees Madison County courtroom

JACKSON, TN — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 35-year-old Derrion Jerrod Jones after he escaped custody inside a courtroom Monday.

According to authorities, Jones was in court around 12:17 p.m. for a hearing related to a prior DUI arrest, for which he had posted a $1,000 bond. During the hearing, officials determined Jones had violated the terms of his bond, and court security officers placed him under arrest on the spot.

Jones then fled the courtroom and left the area, reportedly in a gray 2024 Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows and Tennessee plate BVX-7306. That vehicle has since been recovered at an address in Cordova, TN. Jones remains at large.

Derrion Jerrod Jones is described as a Black male, 35 years old.

If you see him: Do NOT approach. Call law enforcement immediately with his location, direction of travel, and any other details.
