We have no more room for fence straddlers going forward. Youre watching whats happening right in front of you every day and youre silent. The racists have loudly chosen their side while you play "Devil's Advocate".

Either youre going to be on the RIGHT side of history or the other side. Either youre on the side of the good guys in this story or the villians.

Its amazing the things you come across when youre not looking. A TV show, a thought, a post...all can trigger a memory of something you stored away. A connection to who you are...

I re-discovered boxes I had long since put away. That reminded me of my teenage years and early college years where visits to Camelot and Books-A-Million were my regular Sunday visits. I keep a lot of stuff I should have thrown away a long time ago. But some stuff...will always be vintage.

I really miss the in-depth conversations we used to have about music. Folks arent listening to music the same anymore. Its all surface talk. Microwaveable responses to music produced like fast food. Declaring albums "classics" 30 minutes after its release or music interviews where they ask the same questions.

How many folks click on the Song Credits or Song DNA on Spotify?? Or the digital booklets that some artists have on Apple Music?

I remember the conversations our crew had about Wu-Tang's "Enter The 36 Chambers" or the imagery invoked by Outkast's ATLiens. Havent had one of those in a while.

Many years ago, I was honored to channel the spirit of Lamar "Ditney" Smith, a voting rights activist in Brookhaven, MS. He is one of the lesser known heroes of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement.

On this date in 1955, Smith was shot down in broad daylight...in front of 30 witnesses...for helping other Black folks fill out absentee ballots.

The three men who participated in his murder went free. One of those men were related to the husband of Cindy Hyde Smith. Go figure.

Artists! Especially those in Mississippi. You should be watching what Dear Silas Akeem Ali and Coke Bumaye are doing to build COMMUNITIES around their music. They are winning because they have all figured out creative ways to organically build their followings. Consumers no longer care JUST about the music...its about CONNECTIONS!

Youre screaming about "support" but what are you doing daily to engage the folks who regularly support you? T-shirts? Merch? Daily emails? Engaging under posts? Meet & Greets? Exclusive access??

Picture it. The early-2000's and Southern Hip Hop was beginning its trend toward crunk music. Crooked Lettaz had begun working on solo projects because of legal drama with our label. Banner had just dropped "Firewater Boyz Vol. 1".

So instead of following the trends, I decided to drop this junt. And I couldnt believe how fast it caught on. Then WJMI put it in heavy rotation. The rest...as they say...was history. When the lyrics and energy of a song are REAL it will resonate.

In 2011, James Craig Anderson was beaten and killed by a racist group of white folks from Puckett, MS. Anderson was killed near Hwy 80 in west Jackson.

Those white folks sat around while drinking and smoking then decided that they would go to Jackson to harass Black folks. It was later found that they did this regularly.

So do I think Black folks in Mississippi are "overreacting" by thinking a young Black woman could have been lynched in West Jackson?

Hell No!

I just gave you an example!

But do I think the young lady found hung in west Jackson was the victim of a lynching at the hands of a "white mob"?

No. I Dont.
