Laying down in the silty mud and sand in heavy rain in order to get eye level with these bald eagles, knowing that the Nikon Z 8 was fully up to the challenge. Having confidence in your gear is such a good feeling, because in wildlife photography, there’s no such thing as “bad” weather.

There’s something about watching a brown bear at the edge of Brooks Falls that never gets old. Surrounded by the power of rushing water, they make it look effortless.

903 is the prefect subject to photograph in the fall at Brooks. He sits patiently, allowing you to slow the shutter speed down to get a softer feel. One of my favorite ways to photograph a place that I’ve photographed countless times before is to look for a different way to tell the same story.

Giving bears and other wildlife plenty of space is always the priority when I’m photographing them. Getting the shot is never worth being too close or pushing a situation and changing an animal’s behavior.

That’s one of the things I love about shooting with the NikonUSA Z 8 and it’s 45.7 megapixels. I have plenty of room to crop while still keeping tons of detail in the final image, all without altering the animal’s behavior

Meet Bear 335…better known as Meatball 🐻

This year, Meatball became a mom for the very first time, and she’s had her hands full with three cubs. Watching her learn the ropes of motherhood and care for these cubs has been so much fun.

Being a first time mom as a bear in Alaska is no easy job, but Meatball has been doing an incredible job with these little ones. There’s nothing I cherish more than spending time with bear cubs in the wild

A month in Alaska during peak bear season, and this is what my camera roll looks like. It handled every situation I threw at it - the autofocus is ridiculously good, the image quality is incredible, and it’s become a camera I can trust when every moment counts, even when the weather and light is challenging.

This is just a small look at what I captured. A lot more Alaska content is on the way.

Thanks NikonUSA for a combination that doesn’t miss a thing.
