Pt. 2

Evelyn Preer (July 26, 1896 – November 17, 1932), was a pioneering African-American stage and screen actress and jazz and blues singer of the 1910s through the early 1930s. Preer was known within the black community as "The First Lady of the Screen." She was the first black actress to earn celebrity and popularity. She appeared in ground-breaking films and stage productions, such as the first play by a black playwright to be produced on Broadway, and the first New York-style production with a black cast in California in 1928.

This Film Poster Is From The Year 1919

Oscar Micheaux (January 2, 1884 – March 25, 1951) was an African-American author, film director and independent producer of more than 44 films. He formed his own movie production company and although short-lived, the Lincoln Motion Picture Company was the first movie company owned and controlled by black filmmakers. Producing both silent films and sound films, Micheaux used his motion pictures to move away from the negative β€œNegro” stereotypes being portrayed in film at the time. Given the times, his accomplishments in publishing books and filmmaking are extraordinary, including being the first African-American to produce a film to be shown in β€œwhite” movie theaters. Micheaux is regarded as the first major African-American feature filmmaker, a prominent producer of race film, and has been described as "the most successful African-American filmmaker of the first half of the 20th century".
