Police had been looking for a person of interest, possibly connected to the shooting. Earlier Monday, Daytona Beach police said someone had been detained. Not long after, police announced an arrest had been made.
Details on what led to the shooting, a possible motive, or how Bermudez is connected were not immediately available. Daytona Beach Police said it plans to hold a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the investigation.
FOX 35 News' Pattrik Perez spoke with a woman over the weekend who said she was in the parking lot when the fight and shooting happened. The woman said her name was Caitlyn, but declined to provide her last name.
She said she was visiting Daytona Beach for a friend's birthday party at Razzle's Nightclub. She parked and suddenly she saw people fighting and then heard gunshots. It was no more than 10 minutes of it being physical before the gunshot," she said. "It went from one-on-one, just two girls, to about ten people, and then it was males and females just dragging each other, punching each other, pulling each other's hair."
Nearby residents with whom FOX 35 spoke said more needs to be done to improve safety around Seabreeze Boulevard, and that change may be coming in the form of a new Daytona Beach police substation. The work is underway right now to get it open by Sept. 1, according to police. It'll be located just down the street from where this shooting happened in a building adjacent to the Sunoco gas station.
Business owners like Bill Brown said it'll be a welcomed addition to the neighborhood.
"Just [having] the presence here is fantastic," Bill Brown said. "Just the police cars here and the police here. For me, it's a goldmine."
