On July 4, 1776, it was declared, "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal." Two days before, those words were different... stronger and simpler.
Instead of "self-evident," Jefferson wrote it was "sacred and undeniable" that all men were created equal. It is believed Franklin changed it to choose a word that is inherently subjective and base rather than the undeniable God blessed right "sacred and undeniable" conveys.
You knew that if you watched the first 20 seconds of my TEDxJacksonville Talk- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrzJyrlSoFE.
Since then, we've been fighting to make equality sacred and undeniable. Even Lincoln said equality was a "proposition." I fight for equality daily. As Leymah Gbowee said, peace is not the absence of war, it is the recognition that we are all equal and are due certain simple human rights.
Don't just eat watermelon, drink beer or set off fireworks. Agree to make her better than ever before and honor the sacred and undeniable equality we all share as Americans. Love one another.
