On the sixth day of December, our whole family gathered at our baby sister’s home. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the festive fun of Grinch-green cookies and bright green punch. Everything was decorated so beautifully truly, no one can do it like my sister. She had everything perfectly in place: pizza, cheese dip, cookies, and that famous green Grinch punch.
Then came the Ugly Hat Contest. Everyone lined up with a smile, proudly explaining what their hat meant and why they designed it that way. It was wonderful creative, funny, and perfectly fitting for the occasion. And as my grandsons would say, WOW!! It was time to spin the wheel If your number was called, you won a gift. If you got a zero, you didn’t win—but you did get another chance to try!
Next came the right–left, left–right game. Oh, the excitement! Every gift was unique money, money, money, honey and that’s what everyone loves. Then we switched things up with a twist on musical chairs, but sitting down. What fun we had! At the end, only one winner walked away with a $100 bill or so we thought. When the mother and daughter started playfully going back and forth over that prize… come to find out, the $100 bill was fake! Laugh out loud!
After that, pillows were given out to decorate as we wished. Each pillow carried a special message—“Nothing is impossible,” “Stand with courage,” and more beautiful reminders of strength and love.
As the evening came to a close, the winners of the Ugly Hat Contest were proudly announced: Patricia Cooney and Nora Cooney. What a beautiful night it was! Everyone went their separate ways, and I’m sure our sister Connie sat on her couch afterward, put on a movie, and drifted off to sleep with a smile.
The end.
Merry Christmas to you all from the Cooney family. 🎄💚
