As of Wednesday afternoon, the University of North Florida Police Department is continuing to investigate an attempted sexual assault that occurred Monday night near campus.⁠

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'9", 190 pounds, 55 years old, with brown balding hair, hazel eyes, and tattoos on both arms.

Building 50, the University of North Florida’s science and engineering building, remains without power and will be closed through Thursday, according to a campus alert.⁠

The outage was caused by a main switchgear failure on Sunday night, according to a university spokesperson on Monday.⁠

UNF police are currently searching for the suspect in an attempted sexual assault that occurred Monday night near the corner of Eco Road and Central Parkway near campus.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. According to the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, “domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.”⁠

The Dean of Students Office at the University of North Florida hosts programming to raise awareness of these types of behaviors to our students. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, anywhere. We want our students to stay safe and be aware of the resources available to them should they find themselves in a situation like domestic violence. ⁠
⁠
Take Back the Night (TBTN) is a worldwide initiative to take a stand against domestic violence and UNF participates in this movement by hosting our own Take Back the Night event.
