AT LAST! Your perfect holiday gift!
Please join us for the unveiling of my new book, Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage, Bicentennial Deluxe Edition.
Slide presentation and book signing, Thursday, December 8, 6:00p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
This new book features the addition of 400 new sites not included in the original 1989 volume. Mid-Century Modern buildings, as well as newly discovered architectural gems, culturally significant buildings, and an entire section of little-known and highly unusual sites will add an entirely new perspective. Unlike the 1989 book, this Bicentennial Deluxe Edition is all in COLOR and features over 1,000 new photographs. The result is a showcase of Jacksonville’s architecture unlike anything ever published. If you liked the old book, you will love this new one even more.
BOOK CELEBRATION – co-sponsored by Riverside Avondale Preservation and the Jacksonville Historical Society
Thursday Dec. 8 – 6p.m.-8p.m. - free admission
Church of the Good Shepherd, Betsy Lovett Hall, 1100 Stockton Street, Jacksonville
6-6:45 p.m. book signing; slide presentation 6:45-7:30 p.m.; another book signing will be held 7:30-8 p.m.

Please consider supporting this legendary venue!

Hello Florida Theatre Friends and Supporters,

It’s de rigueur for nonprofit executives to send a year-end fundraising appeal dressed up as a thoughtful year-end message, so here is my deep thought for the end of 2020: after a year in which there was a lot of disagreement, I think we can all agree that 2021 can’t get here fast enough.

The Florida Theatre started 2020 being named one of the Top 5 most attended theatres in the nation under 2,000 seats for 2019 by the concert industry magazine Pollstar, and we’re finishing 2020 being named one of the Top 20 Tour Stops for 2020 in terms of attendance by the venue management magazine VenuesNow. This in a year when it was 38 weeks and 6 days between tours actually stopping here (Get The Led Out on March 13 and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on December 9).

If every bad experience can also be a learning opportunity, one thing I hope results from 2020 is a renewed sense that being able to gather communally to enjoy live art and entertainment in a beautiful space like the Florida Theatre is indispensable to our lives here in Jacksonville, and that’s worthy of our public and private support.

The Florida Theatre made it through 2020 because over 2,000 individuals and organizations made donations of one sort or another. If you’d like to add your support (or if you have already provided support and want to update it) you can contribute to the Help Us Cross the Finish Line! campaign at floridatheatre.com. (Note that donations to the Finish Line campaign support our crisis related costs, and are matched dollar for dollar by matching gifts from the Florida Theatre Board of Directors and the Delores Barr Weaver Fund. We are $147,153 toward a $180,000 goal.)

You can also become a Florida Theatre member, you can “name” a seat in the Theatre, you can “name” a brick in the sidewalk, you can enter our New Year’s Eve Ticket Drawing for the chance to win two tickets to every Florida Theatre show in 2020, and your business can become a Corporate Partner at floridatheatre.com.

Happy New Year. 2021 will still be challenging, but it’ll still be a new year!
