Happy end of year and end of holiday season. This is a time of transition and is spent in reflection of the year that has passed. 2023 was a wild ride, from dployment in January, missed birthdays and holidays, short weekend vacation to celebrate Dylan's third birthday, Hubby comes home for my birthday and our anniversary, he is gona again by halloween, missed Thanksgiving and Christmas, Covid for Christmas, and now New Year's Eve (my husbands favorite holiday) alone. It has been a hard journey, and I have grown so much as a wife, businesswoman, and mother. I look forward to all of the growth that happens in 2024. Next year will be exponential in my goals and ambitions. I refuse to be passive. My husband will be celebrating his 20 year High School Reunion, and I want to be proud of the life that I have made for myself. Cheers to the future! Happy New Year from our family Sub Squad Homeschool.

Our family celebrates Christmas on Christmas eve. Every year we all get together at my aunt's house. It is literally my favorite day of the year. Some of my family members. I only get to see once a year on christmas eve. My aunt and uncle provide five dishes and desserts. The children are able to open their presents in the adults participate in a white elephant gift exchange. The gift exchange is my favorite tradition For christmas eve. Our family members like to get creative with the gifts. And it's always fun to fight over the more desired presents. I have so many memories growing up with my cousand all my other family members. We have a very large family including many members of extended family. And we all get together. Usually there is about fifty people that show up. What is some holiday traditions that your family keeps? Let me know when the comments. I always enjoy hearing about christmas traditions. Christmas eve is our traditional celebration but christmas day has its traditions as well. My husband and I have been ordering chinese food on christmas day Since the time we got together.

πŸŒŸπŸ“š Homeschooling has been an eye-opener for me! Here are 3 golden nuggets I've picked up along the way:

1️⃣ Every kiddo is a unique learner, each with their own amazing style! With homeschooling, it's like having a tailor-made education for them. You can really tweak and adjust to match their needs perfectly.

2️⃣ School doesn't have to eat up a whole day! Take Charlotte, my kindergartenerβ€”our formal lessons typically wrap up in just 30-45 minutes. Short, sweet, and super effective!

3️⃣ Life itself is a classroom! Seriously, there are lessons hiding in every nook and cranny of the real world. Mastering the art of navigating life's daily challenges is key to a successful journey.

🌈 Embracing these homeschool insights has been a game-changer! What's the most surprising thing you've discovered through homeschooling? Share your thoughts below! πŸ“βœ¨

a. Nature of FRGs (1) FRG is a private organization, closely-affiliated with the command, comprised of family members, Sailors, and civilians associated with the command and its personnel, who support the flow of information; provide practical tools for adjusting to Navy deployments and separations; and serve as a link between the command and Sailors’ families. FRGs help plan, coordinate, and conduct informational, care-taking, morale-building, and social activities to enhance preparedness and command mission readiness, and to increase the resiliency and wellbeing of Sailors and their families. (2) FRGs are an integral part of a support service network that includes ombudsmen, fleet and family support centers (FFSC), chaplains, school liaison officers, and child development centers at the command-level, to provide services in support of Service members and their families. (3) FRGs interact with installation activities (e.g., FFSC, morale, welfare, and recreation chapel) and other Navy-affiliated private organizations (e.g., Chief Petty Officers Association, Navy Wives Club of America, Navy League Association, United Services Organization) to help coordinate activities for the support of unit members and their families. (4) Sample by-laws for an FRG are contained in enclosure (1). b. Structure of FRGs (1) FRGs consist of elected officers and group members. (a) FRG Elected Officers. If an FRG chooses to fundraise, at a minimum, the FRG must elect a president and a treasurer. FRGs may include additional elected officers; see enclosure (1). (b) FRG Members. FRGs are open to all family members, Sailors, and civilians associated with the command and its personnel.

You may or may not know, but when sailors are out on a Submarine, they have very limited communication. All communication is done via email. As you can imagine, the emails do not always have the opportunity to go through in the short window for broadcasting. This can mean days, even weeks, of no communication from your Sailor. As this is my second go round for deployment, I have developed strategies for coping with the lack of communication.

1. Never look at the news. The only thing that looking at the news is going to do is to make you anxious. The news should also be considered propaganda. Any news on the boat is carefully curated to support the mission.

2. Keep yourself busy. Any activity that will keep you away from the computer or phone will do. I have noticed that when I do not have something to do, I tend to sit around in a state of paralysis, constantly refreshing my inbox. This is not healthy.

3. Continue to send emails even during this time. I write my husband an email once a day as I am getting ready for bed. I know that he will eventually get it, and many times, I will receive multiple emails in one day replying to all of my previous emails. Not everyone chooses to do it this way. You should email as often as you are comfortable.

4. Talk with other spouses going through the same thing you are. Most people can not begin to imagine the hardship that comes with deployed life. The good thing is that the submarine community is very tight knit. We are all going through it and it is nice to be able to vent to someone who understands. Be careful not to dwell too much on the negativity.

These are just a few of the things that I make sure to incorporate into my daily life. What are some of the things that you do when communications go dark for a time period? Let me know in the comments.
