8/12 Today in Florida History from the Florida Historical Society!

1822 – Jackson and Duval, Florida’s third and fourth counties, respectively, were both created on this date. Jackson was named for Andrew Jackson, commissioner of the United States and acting governor during the transfer of Florida from Spain to the United States (March 10 through November 12, 1821). Duval was named for William Pope Duval (1784-1854), territorial governor of Florida from 1822 until 1834.

THE CULINARY INSTITUTE OF AMERICA IS COMING TO JACKSONVILLE!
in case you missed it!
The Culinary Institute of America has reportedly selected Jacksonville as the location for its Southeast campus, as confirmed by City Council members.
The New York-based institute voted on a site in June but has not announced the results of that vote.
The establishment is anticipated to be situated on the northbank in the downtown area of Jacksonville.

⚠️BUCKMAN BRIDGE LANE CLOSURES: Double lane closures on I-295 North over the Buckman Bridge are planned this weekend for bridge joint work. Lanes will close at 10 p.m. Friday, July 31 and reopen by 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3. The ramp from San Jose Boulevard to I-295 North will also be closed during this time, with Old St. Augustine Road as the detour route. Seek alternate routes if possible and plan extra time for travel.
