Being Sick And Tired Does Not Mean These Shootings Will Stop - The Florida Star | The Georgia Star

It just means you are sick and tired, nothing else. I leave my house each day with a mixture of apprehension and caution. There isn’t a panacea you get that rids you of these senseless shootings. Living like this is a bit unnerving to me. We seem to be a society of shootings at times.

Nov. 1, 1879 | Government Separates Native Children from Families in Forced Assimilation

After the U.S. Congress created the Civilization Fund and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, boarding schools for Native children were established and children were forcibly compelled to attend these schools, which were designed to eradicate Native youth’s tribal ties and assimilate them into white culture so that they would grow into adults supportive of the American economy. The consequences of this horrific abuse are still felt today.

How long will it take Florida to issue one Black farmer a marijuana grow license?

"It's available for the haves, but not the have-nots," Warthen said. "Not only Parramore — you have Holden Heights, you have Pine Hills, every single Black or urban neighborhood in the city, that's not available. And these elderly people are ailing from the same issues that everyone else has but there are no resources there for them."

The Department of Health hasn't yet announced who will receive the license reserved for a Black farmer. It's possible the license will go to a Pigford class member outside of Florida. According to the application, if a business entity is applying, only that entity needs to prove it has been registered to do business in the state of Florida for the previous five years — not necessarily the qualifying farmer.

This spring, the Florida Department of Health did something that had seemed like it might never happen: It opened up a five-day window for Black...

Black farmers see new opportunities in the budding industrial hemp industry

New Black farmers see new opportunities in the budding industrial hemp industry. “We want to be a Black-owned hemp processor. We want that to be a part of our legacy,” she said. “We moved here for this. We got a little side tracked, little forks in the road but it ended up being a nice road to be landed on.” https://bit.ly/3qC3z2A

There’s a glaring disparity issue in industrial hemp production — just 6% of producers are Black. A couple in Missouri hopes to create the state’s first Black-owned hemp processing site.

How fast was Bob Hayes?

Today is the big day at William M. Raines High School kick off the #BOBHAYES TRACKMEET as some of the fastest youth in the world will convene to showcase their talents.

It all started with Coach Washington who founded this outstanding sporting event over half a century ago. His legacy will truly be remembered.

It was #GilbertHighSchool that produced the talent that shook up #Tokyo when lightening Bullet #BobHayes (we call him "CROW") made his mark at '64 olympic games with the best time of 10.06, which he clocked in the #Olympic finals on a cinder track after running a wind-assisted 9.91 in the semi-finals.

White farmers sue U.S. government over stimulus for 'socially disadvantaged farmers'

The suit seeks to stop the Department of Agriculture from using race to guide eligibility for “loan modifications and payments.”

“Because plaintiffs are ineligible to even apply for the program solely due to their race, they have been denied the equal protection of the law and therefore suffered harm,” the lawsuit states.

Mr. Vilsack, who served eight years as Agriculture secretary under President Obama, said the Agriculture Department “is going to move forward” with the effort despite the litigation.

“I think there is a very legitimate reason for doing what we are doing,” he said.

He said the relief package provided for the creation of an “equity commission” to examine possible “systemic barriers that need to be removed at the department,” and to review steps to create “better technical assistance, better access to land, better access to markets for socially disadvantaged producers.”

https://news.yahoo.com/black-farmer-discrimination-lawsuit-164229062.html

A group of American farmers, all of them white, is suing the government for race-based discrimination, alleging that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s loan forgiveness program for Black farmers is a violation under the Constitution.

Donald Trump a boost into the White House. Less known is the extent to which they also tried to depress black votes and undermine support for Hilary Clinton. The Russian persuaders used virtually all platforms including second-tier ones like Reddit, Gab, Pinterest, and Tumblir to lower voter turnout among Democrats in 2016. Researchers from Oxford University and Austin-based New Knowledge analyzed data from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Both groups of researchers found Instagram was used much more to reach African Americans than previously thought. Instagram got 187 million “likes” from content generated by IRA. Facebook users engaged Russian propaganda only 76.5 million times. New Knowledge found that African Americans were targeted with dozens of phony pages compared to one or two pages that were aimed at other ethnic or religious groups. The report found IRA created 81 bogus pages. The 25 pages aimed at right-wingers drew 1.4 million followers. The 30 pages aimed at African Americans drew 1.2 million. In addition, the Russians launched a Twitter barrage to confuse voters about voting rules and dissuade them from voting. The Oxford researchers found much the same thing. “These campaigns pushed a message that the best way to advance the cause of the African-American community was to boycott the election,” they wrote. Reaction to the reports came swiftly from the N.A.A.C.P. They called for a week-long boycott of Facebook and Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.
