Interesting take on today's music industry. We have great partners both independent and signed that provide us great music to bring to you. We will always fall on the side of the artist. Pay them. Sign them. Buy their music in physical form. Buy merch. Go to shows. It's really that simple. Use the algorithm only for suggestions and not as a tunnel of curated echo chamber nonsense.

New episode of the Artist's Spotlight drops today with Short Notice Official! They are getting ready to embark on a mini tour. What a better way to introduce you to some Midwest Emo and local independent artists!

Based in Springfield/Jacksonville/Bloomington/Champaign, if you miss the days of classic emo with a new modern twist, Short Notice is the band that everyone should check out. Blending in new rhythms and a unique sonic pallet from their varying backgrounds, Short Notice is set to embark on their first mini tour this fall.

With influences as wide ranging as metal, Rush and the early 2000s emo/pop punk scene of Central Illinois, Short Notice has already appeared as an opening band for several regional touring acts with more to come.

I sat down with them in September in the green room at Pizza Records to get the inside scoop of where it all comes from and where they are going.

Lead Vocals- Joseph Derhake
Guitar/Vocals- William Jurgens
Bass/Vocals- Jewels Fuqua
Drums- Gabe Kyle

You can always stream the episode live on our station at Elm City Radio. The episode will air at 7 pm CST every night through Nov. 18. Check it out on the station or download it wherever you get your favorite podcasts.

Sorry it's been so quiet lately. I'm recovering from oral surgery. I'm still getting used to talking with my new plate. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon, or I'll get used to the new sound.

Speaking of dulcet tones, a big thank you to Miss Emily for providing us some new station IDs. You can hear her music exclusively here in Central Illinois right here on Elm City Radio.

Here in a few days Jacksonville will celebrate its 200th anniversary. I'll be wrapped up in some festivities with that not encompassing Elm City, but hopefully will have a cool story or two to tell over The Source - my writing/journalism/photography work.

I have a great local band coming up to be featured on this month's Artist Spotlight - so stay tuned for that.

and again, speaking of anniversaries, Morgan, Scott & Cass Crime Stoppers are celebrating their 40th birthday this year as well. I'll have a couple of interviews coming up for the Crime Stoppers podcast soon. Stay tuned for that as well.

One more big announcement is also coming up that you won't want to miss. It'll be fun and snazzy with a pair of long-time supporters of Elm City.

For now, please just get on and listen to the station for 15 minutes or so a day. Every little bit helps us keep the stream of great music coming. Find us on Live365 (Official), just tell your device to find Elm City Radio or search for us.

After my battle with the chompers is complete, we'll dig back in with some more content. New music from the last few weeks include new releases from Hannah Jadagu, Laura Cox, Hollow Souls, GA-20, Chappell Roan, Seether, Freak Slug, Katie Schecter, Todd Snider, Hayley Williams, Brandi Carlile, Braxton Cook, and Geese.

Inner Outlines and James Tyler and the Usual Crowd have been talked about and featured here. If you can come out, great. Drop some $ in the hat for my brother and his family while he battles cancer. If you would like to donate but can't attend, please message the page and I'll get you the details. Thanks.

Looks like its going to be a beautiful day for a Sunday funday event like no other. Perfect time to take a break from the depths of harvest and enjoy some great food and support the cause. Our friends over at Sandy Creek Smokers and JMFS competition BBQ teams have graciously donated their time to cook up a mountain of slow smoked pulled pork. We're going to have a few items from our distributors for a silent auction. So if anyone would like to throw in a basket or item for the auction we would greatly appreciate it. All of your musical guests are proudly donating their time as well. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the Cox family. Hope to see you all there!!!

El Crow/Cory is a great photographer. If you've played a Downtown Concert in the city, the last couple of years, Cory's been the man taking the photos.

Cory and I go back almost 15 years now from our days work at AGI Media, making all the album art for the music industry and the DVD outer art for movies for the world. I was the sales clerk, he was the pre-press digital guy setting it all up for the printers. I met a lot of great people working there. Cory's talent and eye were evident then and even more so now.

He's a one-man band just like us. Sometimes we're people. Sometimes we stand on business. Give us some grace. He'll continue to make you look good. I'll attempt to make you sound good and get your music to the masses.

Small business is the backbone of our nations. Thanks for understanding. ElCrow Photography and Design keep on brother! You're doing just fine.

There's a bit of music history I added to the station this week. I've long been a fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival. The songs were part of my (and most likely many other Gen X/Millenial kids') childhoods. It was cemented even more with The Big Lebowski in 1998.

I found out much later on, like some did, that John Fogerty didn't have ownership of the songs with the band. It caused a terrible rift between he and the other band members - including his later brother Tom - who took that bitterness with him to his grave in 1990.

Thankfully, over the years, John has worked tirelessly to get back control the rights to the songs. The steps started back in the early 2000s began with he sale of Fantasy Records to Concord Records in 2004, which ended the 30-year estrangement between Fogerty and his former label, as the new owners took steps to restore royalty rights Fogerty had given up to be released from his contract with Fantasy in the mid-1970s. Fogerty published his autobiography, Fortunate Son that details much more of this fight and the ins and outs of being swindled and making mistakes along the way in the music business. On January 13, 2023, Fogerty announced on Twitter that he now owned the rights to the CCR global catalog after a 50-year legal battle and multiple lawsuits.

The business side of things is very dirty and always has been. I try to help local, independent artists as much as I can here - as I was once in their shoes.

With that said, John has re-recorded several CCR songs which was released on Friday. What's more important is that John turns 80 this year. Cherish our musical legends, as we've found out this year, time ain't always long. Enjoy several CCR classics from this album now in the rotation. Thanks for listening.
