The idea of “Wifey Wednesday” was originally sparked in 2010 during my undergrad studies at the Florida State University among some of my girlfriends. We came to the swift realization that we all wanted to get married one day; however, some of us could barely boil water. We took it upon ourselves to develop our cooking resume ever Wednesday by taking turns cooking new dishes, therefore relieving o
ur future husbands of being tortured with hamburger helper every day. As I graduated and began working within corporate America, I noticed a trend that didn’t quite sit well with me. Somewhere down the line, women took it upon themselves to suppress their domestic side to focus more on their careers because more often than not it’s viewed as a sign of weakness in corporate America when trying to climb that corporate ladder. This is when the ideology of Wifey Wednesday first evolved. Since its birth, Wifey Wednesday has developed into so much more than just cooking new dishes on a Wednesday. Wifey Wednesday has become a persona for the well-rounded woman; married or not. A woman should feel that she is capable of pursuing her professional goals while not having to view taking care of her household at the same time as a sign of weakness. Who says a woman can’t climb the corporate ladder, be a soccer mom, maintain her household by doing daily chores, taking time for herself, and still finding time to cater to her husband without feeling like she has to sacrifice one for the other. You may have become exhausted by just reading the things that everyday women already do on a daily basis, but no one is aware of it. There isn’t a support group for these women and that’s where Wifey Wednesday comes in. I have news for your ladies, in today’s society I believe that women can have the best of both worlds. So many women that I already know and look up to, are already carrying their own personal Wifey Wednesday capes and have no idea. Every woman is born with super powers that they either don’t know they have or haven’t had the support or encouragement to tap into it. I believe Diane Mariechild sums it up rather well with her quote, “A woman is full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform.” Not to mention the ultimate inspiration and blueprint lies within the concept of the Proverbs 31 woman or the “Virtuous Woman” persona where in the 25th verse it states “strength and honor are her clothing.” How can we deny how great we are destined to be when God proclaims it Himself? Join the movement and be a part of something great! Wifey Wednesday is a safe haven for the woman of many hats to finally get the appreciation and exposure for all that they do. When one Wifey wins, we all win!
