“ Shake Your Head “ has one of the wild back stories in early 90s alt pop. Originally recorded by Was (Not Was) , the group plan a bold re-release of Madonna’s 1983 vocals, they wanted to feature two powerhouse voices : Ozzy Osbourne and Madonna. However, Madonna did not care for the final mix and they brought in Kim Basinger. Known more for acting than singing she brought the smoky unexpected energy that completely shipped at the songs vibe. Paired with Ozzy‘s raw edge the contrast made the track feel loud quirky and totally unique. The gamble paid off overseas as the single climbed all the way to number four on the UK singles chart, giving the band one of their biggest international hits. But the song never charted in the US, making it one of those odd music history moments were attract blows up abroad, but barely makes a ripple at home. Still the “almost Madonna, ended up Kim Basinger” twist has cemented “Shake Your Head” as a cult, favorite and one of the most interesting “what if’s” in pop / Rock collaboration history.

Courtney Hadwin give tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with “Changes” cover
Courtney, taking on changes by Ozzy Osbourne is pure magic. Her voice cracks open that song in a way that feels raw vulnerable and completely her own like she pulled the emotion right out of the lyric sheet and lit it on fire. Ozzy’s version is iconic but Courtney spin hits that sweet spot between Soul and Rock where you just feel every word. It’s the kind of cover that reminds you why this song lives forever.
