24 weeks pregnant + a dog - everything Iām doing to prepare him for babyās arrivalš¤š¼š¾
The last thing I want when baby arrives is for my dog to feel neglected, left out, or for me to resent himā¦ Iāve been told by so many people thatās what will happen, so Iām staying proactive, preparing him, and making sure that doesnāt happen!
Hereās what Iām doing:
1. Introducing him to baby gear
š¤Strollers, the car seat, all the items that come with bringing a baby home! Weāre desensitizing so heās not afraid of these new things around our home but also building boundaries so he knows that these things are off limits.
2. Desensitizing to new sounds
š¤Baby toys, the sound of baby crying, etc. so that heās not startled when baby comes home. Weāre also working on his barking because thatās one of my biggest fears for bringing baby home - I want us to all be comfortable!
3. Giving him lots of attention
š¤This is a big change, but after all he was my first baby and I donāt know where Iād be without him - Iām making sure to still give him daily snuggle & play time because thatās important to him and our bond.
4. Keeping his routine consistent
š¤Exercise, mental enrichment, and of course nutritionā¦ Iām NOT changing up his food during this time, making sure heās fulfilled and his needs are met.
