Winston County falls in state semifinals

Winston County's run at the State Volleyball Tournament end in the Class 2A semifinals at the Birmingham Crossplex in a hard-fought, five-set match against No. 2 Mars Hill.

Winston County dropped the first two sets, rallied to the win the following two sets before losing in the fifth. Mars Hill won 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 24-26, 15-12 to earn a spot in Thursday's championship match.

The Lady Yellow Jackets won their opener over Highland Home, 25-7, 25-12, 25-8.

Winston County closes the season at 37-15.

Addison beats Meek for state title

The Addison Lady Bulldogs swept county rival Meek 25-14, 25-15, 28-26 in the Class 1A state championship match at the Birmingham Crossplex’s Bill Harris Arena on Wednesday.
The win gives Addison its 15th state title.

Addison-Meek to meet for 1A title

Both Addison and Meek won their semifinal matches at the Birmingham Crossplex on Tuesday afternoon, earning a spot in Wednesday's championship match set for 12:30 p.m.

The match will be held at the Crossplex's Bill Harris Arena.

No. 1 Addison (32-14) took down Appalachian in straight sets, winning 25-11, 25-17, 25-7. No. 5 Meek (27-22) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat No. 3 University Charter in five sets. Meek trailed 4-0 early in the fifth set before earning a 15-7 win.

Addison is 5-0 against Meek this season, winning both regular season matchups as well as matches in the county, area and region tournaments. The teams met in the North Region Tournament final last week in Hoover.
