Orange Beach wins title at Smith Lake Classic; Curry finishes atop silver bracket

CURRY — Orange Beach's volleyball team swept its way through tournament play to capture the gold bracket championship at the Smith Lake Classic held at Curry High School and Curry Middle School on Saturday.

Orange Beach finished 6-1 in the 20-team tournament. In the gold bracket tournament, the Lady Makos picked up straight set wins over Mortimer Jordan, Cullman and Fayette County. Orange Beach's lone loss came in a pool play match to Haleyville. Addison, Winston County and Meek each advanced to the gold bracket, but lost in their first match.

Curry landed in the silver bracket on Saturday and swept its way to the championship. The Lady Yellow Jackets, who went 4-3 on the day, were a perfect 3-0 in tournament play, taking down Leeds, Haleyville and Carbon Hill. Cordova also advanced to the silver bracket, but was eliminated by Marion County in a three-set match.

On the day, Addison, Winston County and Meek each finished 3-2, Carbon Hill was 3-4, Cordova was 2-3, Lynn was 1-4 while Dora, Oakman and Sumiton Christian finished 0-4.

🌟 Walker County Christian Chorus presents: Handel's "Messiah" 🌟

Hobby Lobby has Christmas decorations out, so that can only mean one thing.. its time for Messiah rehearsals to start! 🎶

If you have never heard of the Walker County Christian Chorus (WCCC) - we are a nonprofit, volunteer-based choir dedicated to the rehearsals and performances of Handel's "Messiah" every Christmas! The WCCC is accompanied by members of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. This choir has been a Walker County tradition for over 45 years!

YOU are invited to join us this holiday season. No experience or try out is required. Anyone with a love for music and ministry is welcome to be a part of our choir.

Rehearsals are set to begin on Monday, September 14 and will be every Monday from 6:30-8:30 PM until the performance date.

🌟 Performance: November 30 at 7:00 PM Grace Baptist Church at Sumiton.

The Arley Women's Club is having its Fall Mum Sale, with the order deadline set for Sept. 7. Red, purple/pink, white, yellow and orange/bronze are available at $18 for a 10-inch pot.
