Based on the worsening situation with Lake Petit Dam, I am formally calling for GA Safe Dams Director, David Griffin, to mandate that the lake levels be lowered until the current status of the Dam can be evaluated regarding the increasing wet spots on the face of the Dam. I hope everyone will take this subject seriously, and consider reaching out to their local elected representatives. By Big Canoe's Own Documentation as they applied for Public GEMA Funding to fix their private lake - an estimated 1/2 BILLION DOLLARS in Damages could accrue to Pickens County if this Dam fails. Lowering the lake out of an abundance of caution does no harm to anyone except a few rich pontoon boaters in Big Canoe. Not doing it is simply gambling with the lives and economy of Pickens County Residents. There is no comparison between the two - and if this was any community but the rich, entitled and politically connected Big Canoe - then this would already have been done, and I think everyone knows that. At this point the worsening data makes this an easy call.

BIG CANOE LAKE PETIT DAM: Official Report Shows Rapidly Worsening Condition!

Big Canoe just spent about $1 Million Dollars to put in a huge drainage system on the downstream face of the Dam, as numerous seepage and wet areas had begun to open up. The Engineers put in writing that the new drain system would "remediate" the growing Wet Seepage Areas on the face of the Dam. The April 2026 Inspection Report was just released, and the Wet Spots have grown a lot larger. GA Safe Dams has ordered an immediate inspection of drains. Current reviews of the data, and recently discovered new information about discoveries made during that project (not revealed to the public) suggest that the Drain Project actually made the situation worse - increasing the velocity of water flow through the Dam in this already saturated area, and eroding internal soils quicker. Surprisingly, the article quickly takes a turn, and explores NOT the widely talked about "Developer Lawsuit", but some other lawsuits filed by the POA! Seems there is a lot going on behind the scenes that the POA has failed to share. In keeping with her usual "financial focus", there is indeed a strong financial component to these lesser known litigations.
