Gonna bitch for a second about what a deliberate cesspool Facebook is and how it's mostly the reason why we hate politics and why we are so divided over the weirdest s**t. Breaking news, the political discourse in the US is stage 4.
I try to keep my news feed just local businesses, Pittsburgh news, a sprinkling of meme pages, and The Onion because of course. And we make fun of all the mayoral candidates regardless of party, except Robin because she could probably kick my ass. Anyway, every time something political pops up, I hit the three little dots, hit "hide all from xyz" and "not interested." Fox News? Not interested. Huff Post? Not interested. We have enough here without the national media conglomerates pi***ng into this ocean of p**s in which we wade up to our fun bits, then do that silly little dance when the cold water touches the tip of our junk and we all turn into a C5 sopranos.
Despite that, I'm constantly flooded with 10:1 trash of "friends of true America" and "p**sed off people for liberty" and infuriating AI slop. And the dead internet theory - just legions of bots going "amen" and "great job." And it's never anything thoughtful. It's always "polarizing political figure is the greatest at Americaing ever type amen if you agree, story in the comments." I lose fu***ng brain cells. I can't be the only one that deals with this garbage trough of caustic political rhetoric. I just want local news, memes, and businesses trying and hilariously failing at social media
Most normal people don't want this, but it's just shoveled into our frontal lobes by X and Meta because it's effective rage bait that drives engagement. Sometimes I even fall for it when I jump in the septic tank that's a "patriots unite" comment section to tell people to go fu***ng touch grass, call their kids and grandkids to tell them they're proud of them for getting a B on their paper without chatgpt, and turn off the fu***ng 24 hours news. Most of time, I'm probably just yelling at bots, but whatever.
Look at me, I perpetuating it just by bitching about it! And I'm guilty of getting suckered in by endless videos on YouTube of "Dave epicly owns stupid person from other party MASSIVE DISRESPECT." It's also me. Hi. I'm also the problem, it's me. I should be better too, but that fu***ng dopamine hit you get when someone affirms your burnished opinions is undefeated. I'd fix it if I could, but when the Genie gave me a bonus wish out of pity, I used it on a 4th cigarette.
