The United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) released a joint statement on Sunday condemning the “unlawful” attack in Venezuela and Christmas Day airstrikes in Nigeria.

The Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations similarly condemned the U.S. military operation on Saturday while also offering solidarity with Episcopalians in Venezuela.

While MAGA figures lined up behind the administration, many Christian leaders across the country and around the world were swift in condemning the operation.

We’re a small outlet, but we’re also having an impact and covering stories that would otherwise not receive the attention they deserve.

Here we count down our most popular pieces and offer some highlights from the year:

We’re a small outlet, but we’re having an impact and covering stories that would otherwise not receive the attention they need. This year again proved that.

For the final entry in our Unsettling Advent series this year, Brian Kaylor reflects on what it was like to learn to play “The Coventry Carol” on cello while also exploring Advent in a time of religious nationalism, rising starvation in the U.S. and abroad, and soldiers in the streets.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

The fake “war on Christmas” examples ginned up by culture war talk show hosts in recent years are nothing compared to misusing the birth of Jesus — and Christmas celebrations in general — to justify anti-immigrant policies.

Over the weekend, the Department of Homeland Security released a new video that almost seems like it was conjured up during a drug trip.

In our familiarity with the birth narrative, we often do not consider the long-term consequences for the secondary figures in the story. It was an unsettling time that left long and permanent scars on their lives.

For today's Unsettling Advent entry, Rev. Kristel Clayville reflects on how this liturgical season reminds us that God comes into a world already organized by power and exclusion — and does not accept its terms.

"Grace is not a reward for correct belief or national loyalty but a gift that creates responsibility toward one another."

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures, the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh.

“The cruel spectacle churns on for now, but there are countless ordinary acts of love happening quietly, out of sight, more than you and I will ever know.
