The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal A weekly newspaper dedicated to the progress and growth of LaSalle Parish. The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal is the official journal of LaSalle Parish.

The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal celebrated its 100th anniversary on March 23, 2005, after completing 100 years of service; thus, it is said to be the oldest continuously operated business in LaSalle Parish. During the past years, the paper has grown and now ranks as one of the largest weekly newspapers serving a trade territory of its size. It has also been an award winning newspaper duri

ng these years, with numerous plaques and other awards lining the walls of the office in recognition of outstanding service. The newspaper adopted a slogan, "Dedicated to the Progress and Growth of LaSalle Parish," in 1968, and it remains loyal to that slogan today as it begins its second century of operation. Thus, older than the parish it serves, The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal is proud to serve the citizens of LaSalle Parish and the success the newspaper has enjoyed is due directly to the support from LaSalle Parish businesses and citizens.

It’s official. After many weeks of the Kitterlin Creek Bay property in south LaSalle Parish on the market for public auction, the executor of the estate of Homer E. Gahn Jr. accepted an offer from a Texas man last week. In the official press release issued by Bonnette August 26, it stated the property was sold to a “local buyer,” having many to believe it was someone from LaSalle Parish. Information that same day confirmed the buyer is from Beaumont, Texas, who has yet to be publicly identified.

LaSalle Parish is geared up and ready to welcome shoppers from all over the nation this week as the 3rd Annual Sales Along 84 event begins today and continues until Saturday, September 6. The three-day event will feature garage, yard and lawn sales all along the U.S. Highway 84 route, from Waco, TX to Laurel, MS. At the heart of the 540-mile shopping corridor is the approximate 30-mile stretch through LaSalle Parish ⬇️

The LaSalle Parish Ministerial Alliance is promoting two events set for next weekend, one that focuses on addiction and the second a parish-wide youth rally. On Saturday, September 13, the 2nd Annual Walk for Recovery event will take place at the Jena Town Park and then on Sunday, September 14, the parish-wide youth rally will be held at Jena High School.

On paper, this was supposed to be a mismatch with 5A Ouachita taking on little ole 3A Jena. But the Giants never play the game on paper. Even though the Giants came up short their record is still 0-0 and they picked up some great experience against a very good team.

Despite playing a team three classifications higher, the LaSalle Tigers displayed flashing of light at the football jamboree last Saturday that should have Tiger fans excited about the 2025 season.
The highlight of the day came when quarterback Tuff Street connected with receiver Caiden Finley for a touchdown pass that covered 80 yards. It would be LaSalle’s only score of the day but allowed Tiger fans to see the potential of this year’s team.
