🚫 COURTHOUSE WEAPONS BAN – JEROME

Starting tomorrow, weapons will be prohibited inside the Jerome County Courthouse on North Lincoln Avenue. County commissioners say the move follows security reviews and recent events, stressing the safety of employees, officials, and the public. There will be exemptions for law enforcement and legally authorized individuals.

⛽ GAS PRICES – IDAHO

AAA says the state average for regular gas is $3.49 a gallon down three cents from last week, but still eighth-highest in the nation. The national average is $3.13. AAA says winter-blend fuel could bring more savings, though refinery maintenance or hurricane activity could drive prices back up.

HOUSE FIRE – TWIN FALLS

Twin Falls firefighters knocked down a house fire on Valencia Street in just minutes yesterday afternoon. Flames spread on the back of the home around 3:30, briefly threatening nearby buildings, but no other damage or injuries were reported.

🏥 MEDICAID EXPANSION – STATE REVIEW

Idaho’s DOGE Task Force is weighing cuts or even repeal of Medicaid expansion, which covers over 87,000 people. ⚡ POWER OUTAGE – JEROME

About 90 Idaho Power customers lost electricity overnight after a vehicle hit a pole just before 10 pm last night near 400 West and 100 South in Jerome. Power was restored by 3 a.m this morning.

🏫 STUDENTS FILL JOBS – KIMBERLY SCHOOLS

The Kimberly School District is turning to students to help fill part-time staff shortages. About 25 high schoolers are employed in custodial, maintenance, office, and tech roles, earning district wages while keeping up with classes. Superintendent Luke Schroeder says the program, now six years old, has eased pressure on full-time staff and gained momentum in recent years.

As the November election nears, debate continues in Ketchum over a ballot measure to switch from a mayor-council system to a council-manager form of government. The Idaho Water Resource Board approved over $29 million in projects to improve the Snake River and Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer, including canal upgrades, dam repairs, and new water storage studies.

Friday night football delivered plenty of action across the Magic Valley. Minico rolled past Burley 40–7, and the Bobcats now turn to face Canyon Ridge next week. Twin Falls stayed hot, cruising past Mountain Home 40–7 for their fourth straight win. The Bruins, now 4–1, host Pocatello on Friday, while the Tigers look for their first victory at home against Jerome. The Filer Wildcats also made a statement, lighting up the scoreboard in a 61–6 rout of Battle Mountain, improving to 4–1.

🚗 I-15 Fatal Crash — Officials have identified the man killed after striking debris on I-15 in Salt Lake City Friday night. Twenty-four-year-old Bradley Thomas Beaver of Twin Falls hit a tire, shutting down the interstate for hours.

🦟 New Mosquito Species — A first-of-its-kind mosquito has been discovered in Idaho. The aegypti, native to Africa, was found in Canyon County in August, marking the first known detection in the state. No additional cases have been reported.

🏚️ Historic Site Restoration — Minidoka National Historic Site near Jerome is receiving major upgrades. A multi-year restoration will preserve historic barracks, a mess hall, and a root cellar from the WWII incarceration camp. Similar improvements are planned at Craters of the Moon and Hagerman Fossil Beds.

⚖️ Murder Trial Delayed — The trial of Kevin Kuintzle, accused of killing 84-year-old William Eakin of Jerome, has been delayed again. Court officials say his new public defender needs more time to review disorganized case files. Originally set for December, the trial is now pushed to March.

🚚 I-84 Fatal Crash — Idaho State Police say a 74-year-old man from Layton, Utah, died after a medical emergency caused his truck and horse trailer to leave I-84 near Malta yesterday morning. The vehicle crossed a fence and frontage road before stopping on a hillside. His passenger was not injured.

🚧 I-84 Construction — Westbound access at Exit 211 in Heyburn closes tomorrow for about two weeks as crews rebuild interchange ramps. Drivers will need to detour at Declo or Burley. ITD says the closure will shorten construction by a month, with the full project expected to finish in 2026.

⚽ Boys’ Soccer — Twin Falls edged Burley 1–0 for their fourth straight win over the Bobcats. The Bruins now sit at 5-5-1, while Burley slips to 6-4-2 after back-to-back losses. Twin Falls travels to Columbia tomorrow, while Burley heads to Pocatello Saturday. Jerome cruised past Mountain Home 5–1, and Wood River exploded for 10 goals against Minico, earning their tenth win of the season.

⚽ Girls’ Soccer — Twin Falls shut out Burley 3–0, while Wood River blanked Minico 6–0. Jerome beat Mountain Home 2–0, notching their sixth win behind goals from Ailyn Valencia-Trelles and Yaritza Negrete—her strike described as one of the best shots of the season. More conference matchups are scheduled across the valley this weekend.

🏐 Volleyball — Jerome Tigers scored a key conference win over Burley, 3 sets to 1. After dropping the opener, Jerome roared back to win 25-13 in the second, then sealed the third 25-19 and the fourth 25-20. Other results: Glenns Ferry beat Dietrich 3-1, West Side downed Declo 3-1, and Hagerman swept Richfield 3-0. Burley heads to the Madison Tournament tomorrow and Saturday.

🏈 Idaho State Football — The Bengals hit the road Saturday to open Big Sky play at Northern Colorado. Kickoff is 1 p.m. in Greeley. Idaho State comes in 1–3 after a 90–0 rout of Lincoln, while the Bears are 2–2 following an overtime win at Houston Christian. This will be the 33rd meeting between the programs, with Idaho State leading the series 21–11. The Bengals rank second in the Big Sky in total offense, led by quarterback Jordan Cooke and running back Dason Brooks.
