Our Minnesota stop took an unexpected turn when the water at our KOA campsite started smelling metallic.

We decided to test it straight from the campground connection, before it went through any of our RV filters, just to see what we were actually getting.

Of course, that was not the only surprise Minnesota had for us.

We knew an 8,000-mile RV trip was going to come with a few surprises. We just did not expect our first repair to happen this fast.

A ceiling light came loose from all the bouncing down the road, so John got to add “RV repairman” to the job list a little earlier than planned.

Thankfully, North Dakota turned out to be a much better surprise than the light. We had no idea how much we were going to enjoy our time there.

Our biggest RV trip yet started with a night we will not forget.

Our first stop was the Idaho Potato Museum, a Harvest Hosts location in Blackfoot, Idaho. With no hookups and the outside temperature climbing to 105 degrees, the inside of our fifth wheel reached 103 degrees.

We did everything we could to cool the RV down, keep Heidi comfortable, and make it through the night. By bedtime, the main living area was still around 95 degrees, so we moved into the bedroom and hoped for the best.

We did not get much sleep.

Our new video is live now, and this is just the beginning of our 8,000 mile journey from Idaho to Maine as we work toward completing our Lower 48 state map.

🚐 8,000+ miles from Idaho to Maine. Are we ready?

Before heading out on our biggest RV trip yet, John wanted to make sure our F-350 and fifth wheel were as ready as possible for the miles ahead.

In our newest video, we are sharing how we prepared before leaving home, including fifth wheel prep, truck maintenance, our towing equipment, and some of the things we have learned are important when you are pulling your house across the country.

Of course, no amount of preparation guarantees that RV life will cooperate. 😂 But we would rather find the problems in the driveway than somewhere along the highway!

We really thought this trip was finally behind us… and then one more problem showed up. 😬

After days of dealing with our RV’s 12V power issues, we were finally getting ready to leave McCall. But before this adventure was over, things took one more unexpected turn.

This one definitely lived up to the phrase “what a trip.”

No power. No fix. No answers.

We weren’t sure if the problem was simply a blown 35-amp converter fuse, which we couldn’t find anywhere, or if the converter itself had failed. With no clear answer, we decided to stay, make the best of it, and rough it while hoping the problem wasn’t something much bigger.

RV life isn’t always perfect campsites and easy travels. Sometimes it’s adapting when things don’t go as planned.

We arrived at one of Idaho’s most beautiful state parks ready to relax and enjoy a few days by Payette Lake.

Instead, we were greeted with electrical problems, nonstop rain, and a mystery that had us wondering if our trip might be over before it really began.

On our latest stop in Richland, Washington, we found ourselves asking what actually qualifies an RV park as a resort.

Tight sites, missing amenities, and a few unexpected surprises made this stay very different from what we expected. Was it a bad campground? Not necessarily. But did it feel like a resort? You’ll have to decide.
