My rats weren't the only ones who missed me while I was gone. Quentin has me trapped in a rabbit hole of endless pets!

It's baby Rory! Practicing her keystone skill of swimming. She practices stamina, grace, and dexterity manipulating objects whenever she is in the tub. She has been learning very quickly and also having an easier time as her respiratory infection clears up. She's also getting better at grooming which means she's better at spreading her waterproofing oil and thus improving her buoyancy! She's still a baby, though, and can only swim for short bursts. Today she did about fifteen minutes before telling us she wanted out. Normally, she'd crawl onto an adult beaver's back to be carried home, so we put a hand in that she can climb up on when she's done.

Wait for it... wait for it... there it is. There's the capybara farting in the tub you all wanted to see. Really, let's see if a good old fashioned couple of reels can get us unshadow banned and maybe bring in a few much needed doll-hares to our 501c3 rescue! Venmo at

Time for some big Pipsqueakery news! As many of you know we have always had a passion for wildlife rehabilitation but our ability to do much rehabilitation has been very limited over the years. That's about to change though! We are adding two new team members who are licensed rehabbers and I (Alex) am in the final stages of also becoming a licensed rehabber under their guidance (inspection by the DNR is tomorrow). Our capacity for wildlife will be very limited as we get started though so pay attention to the next bit if you find yourself needing help with injured or orphaned wildlife. ❤️ For the following species we should be able to accommodate the majority of requests for help: To reach us about orphaned or injured groundhogs, beavers, muskrats, flying squirrels, chipmunks, and voles you can message our page, email or TEXT 574-993-2235 (calls from unknown numbers will not be answered) To reach us about orphaned or injured grey squirrels or fox squirrels you can message our page, email or TEXT 812-360-1229. To reach us about orphaned or injured skunks, opossums, bats, armadillos, box turtles, mice, rats, or cottontail rabbits you can text (812)660-6363, message our page or email ❤️ At this time we are unable to rehabilitate raccoons, foxes, coyotes, deer, songbirds, birds of prey, migratory waterfowl, and weasels. ❤️ To find a rehabber near you go to ahnow.org for additional assistance. Happy Sabo Sunday! I am happy to report that everyone is enjoying the new foods that I purchased a few weeks ago. Sabo is particularly fond of the sunflower seeds. He actually will take these right from my hand. He snatches them quite aggressively and runs off with them. This is our first video of Sabo! He is showing off his sunflower seed eating skills for you. 🥰

In case you were wondering how newbie sanctuary gal, Jackie, was doing... She's a menace. 🤣 She's also a big time screamer when she hears the faintest sound that she thinks could be food. Mona Lisa was also slowly plucking fur from Pennie and Jackie. I have that on video too! These guinea pigs need to get smarter about their crimes. They keep committing crimes when the surveillance human is recording.

This beautiful boy was found earlier this week in a box on the street (different box). The finder took him to a friend with bunnies who took care of him and brought him to a vet. Then they brought him to Bun Bun Brigade who brought him to The Pipsqueakery. And now Alex gets to manually activate his bladder twice a day. It's likely he has a spinal injury since his back legs are very weak and he can't p*e on his own. He'll get anti-inflammatory meds to see if any spine use can be salvaged, but the prognosis is likely still going to be sanctuary. So I'll just sit him near my desk and watch him groom all day. Or maybe on my pillow so he can groom me 🤔.

Every once in awhile Addie decides to get aggressive with me and lunges at my feet. She's never that way with anyone else but it's a real hazard to have a 30 pound rodent upset with you. Luckily, I've learned that when this happens she needs some dedicated snuggle time with me to get us back on track. Generally, it's problematic to ascribe human intent to non-human animals but in this case I'm not sure how else to describe her behavior. It's like she's a toddler acting out at her safe person because she hasn't been getting the attention she needs. Now, of course she's a giant rodent who is incredibly strong and has big pointy teeth, but she's also a social animal with emotional needs. Beavers are such smart, social, and sensitive animals and giving her 30 minutes of dedicated cuddle time seems to be what she needs when she starts to act out at me. I mean sure she acts like she hates me at first and sure she p*es on me before falling asleep in my arms but I do think it's what she actually needs. While this is sweet and speaks to our bond I also think it really highlights how I (and Jason and the groundhogs) will never truly meet her need to have her beaver family. We will never give her the security she would have felt still being with her mom, dad, and siblings at just over a year old. We will never be able to fully replace what was taken from her. And honestly, this is also why I think it's unfair to ever keep beavers as pets as might be done if they ended up in the exotic pet trade. It's also what makes trapping and relocating or killing beavers so extremely cruel. They didn't just kill her family they did very real damage to her development as a normal beaver. Addie is big and strong and potentially very dangerous, but she's also so vulnerable and delicate. There's not a better option for Addie since she was determined to be non-releasable in her original state and we will always do our best to meet her needs. However, I just wish humans would have learned to live harmoniously with her family so she would still be with them and giving her beaver mom grief as an upset beaver toddler instead of biting my shoes and p*eing my pants.
