FIRE & OUTDOOR REPORT: Fire officials have recently shared information regarding health impacts, particularly from smoke, when open burning. Vapors and small airborne particles can be inhaled, making breathing difficult and leading to more serious short-term and chronic health problems. Smoke can hurt your eyes, irritate your respiratory system, and worsen chronic heart and lung diseases. The quantity and duration of smoke exposure, as well as a person's age and degree of susceptibility, play a role in determining whether or not someone will experience smoke-related health problems.

They can also land in vegetation in your yard and beyond your property and ignite wildfire. Keep your chimney clean and use a non-combustible metal mesh screen to stop embers from entering or exiting.

FIRE & OUTDOOR REPORT: Looking closer at being prepared for disasters, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management says for folks to have on-hand a 2-week supply of water, you’ll need to consider daily water needs for each person in your household and a minimum of 1 gallon per person, per day is recommended. Additional water for meal preparation should also be taken into consideration. Make sure you have enough to cover all these needs to stay hydrated and comfortable during an emergency. Find more tips on the OEM’s website.
