North American bear claws differ by species, each shaped by habitat and lifestyle.

Black bears have 1–2 inch, sharply curved, dark claws ideal for climbing and foraging.
Polar bear claws, about 2 inches long, are broader and built for grip on ice and catching seals.
Grizzly claws are 2–4 inches, thick and pale-tipped, perfect for digging and brute force.
Kodiak claws are largest—3–5 inches, blunt, and strong—suited for lifting and tearing.

Though all have non-retractable claws, each type reflects its bear’s unique survival needs.

Thoughts??
3 baby bear cubs were just released this weekend in southern Ohio. The DNR noted that they wanted to start introducing black bears in the southern part of the state to combat the growing population of coyotes in the area. If you see these cubs, do not touch them, they are not pets. They have chips implanted in them so the DNR can monitor them and see how they are thriving.

When a crow feels sick… it visits an anthill.

Sounds strange? It’s actually one of nature’s most fascinating healing rituals.

When a crow senses it’s unwell, it will intentionally find an anthill, spread its wings wide, and remain completely still—waiting for the ants to crawl into its feathers.

Why?

Because ants release formic acid—a natural antiseptic that kills bacteria, fungi, and parasites hiding in the bird’s feathers.
This behavior is called “anting”, and it’s been observed not just in crows, but in many bird species.

No medicine.
No vet.
Just pure instinct and nature’s built-in pharmacy.

A brilliant reminder that the natural world is full of intelligent, self-healing systems…
We just need to stop and notice.
