Your attitude can and will impact your outcome.

"There was so much information to take in and I was eager to hear the plan to save my life all while still being devastated and shocked by the news."

In our new October 2025 edition, we are celebrating stories of survival and tenacity, bravery, and optimism. You will meet 12 Breast Cancer warriors and read their stories, including an inspiring piece submitted by Gwendolyn Deaver.

"Through all of this I’ve learned the following: trust your gut instincts, advocate for yourself, and remain positive. Your attitude can and will impact your outcome. "

This was my second round of breast cancer – this time, a different type

"This was my second round of breast cancer – this time, a different type. My doctor agreed that a masectomy was my best option. I had the surgery in May and because it was caught so early no other treatment was needed this time. I am monitored through bloodwork and my oncologist here. "

In our new October 2025 edition, we are celebrating stories of survival and or tenacity, bravery, and optimism. You will meet 12 Breast Cancer warriors and read their stories, including a powerful piece submitted by Debbie Adams.

"I continue to have a great support system of my husband, my sons, my employer, great customers, some coworkers and amazing friends. "

Keep God, Family and Friends close in your heart

"I had an army of supporters during my journey. I had two best friends who rotated taking me to chemotherapy and who literally checked on me every single day. My parents helped out with cooking and errands and most importantly with the kids when I was in the hospital and when I was too weak to get off the couch or out of bed. To this day, I was and still am truly humbled and blessed by the army of supporters that I had throughout my cancer journey. "

In our new October 2025 edition, we are celebrating stories of survival and or tenacity, bravery, and optimism. You will meet 12 Breast Cancer warriors and read their stories, including a powerful piece submitted by Amy Stango.

"If I can offer any advice to fellow women, it would be…Get your mammograms annually and always be an advocate for your health. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or get a second opinion. And always, always remember to keep God, Family and Friends close in your heart and in your life. "

Celebrating a successful "Operation"

In our new October 2025 edition, we are getting inside Operation Be-You-tiful. We have an exclusive interview with founder, Andi Palmer.

"We like to go above and beyond with what we do for women. Helping one woman out is assisting an entire community.... It’s not just me, or me and my daughter anymore. They say it takes a village and we have a huge, huge village of help now. This organization is all about women helping women and in this area, it’s the women who step up to help when help is needed.”

Read more of Andi's interview with us and find out what goes on behind the scenes of their big annual October fundraising (PS.: It's this very Saturday) in the new printed edition of Johnstown Magazine -- available everywhere now!

YOU ASKED.... WE LISTENED... SO WE ARE GIVING YOU MORE TIME

We are planning another special holiday keepsake edition for December -- one that will feature your stories, photos and recipes that represent the holiday season throughout all of Johnstown and our surrounding neighborhoods!

Johnstown Holiday 2025 will include snapshots, stories and treats all submitted by you!

You asked us to give you a little more time to get your photos and stories together and we are happy to oblige and so we extended out deadline for submissions for this wonderful treasury.

That means for a little while longer we are looking for your holiday materials. Any and all of it. That’s right. Recipes. Photos. Stories. Original poems.

Oh yes and photos... send us your photos... of holidays past. Of the kids playing during a snow day. Of your visit with St. Nick. Having fun at the ski resorts. Your backyard. In front of the fireplace.

Whatever you got that says “Happy Holidays,” send it.

Have a memorable moment? A cookie recipe you're always asked to share? We'd love to give it a publishing home.

Readers are asked to submit their holiday themed photos, stories, poems and recipes -- with as much written detail included as possible (please include the name of the photographer if it’s not you) to [email protected]. In the subject line, write JM Holidays.

Your material is due no later than Friday, October 10. Any submission received after that date could be reserved for a future issue, however. That's as far as we can push it and still get your submission in this year.

Help us make this year's Holiday Issue the merriest yet!

Introducing (officially) the October 2025 edition!

We are celebrating stories of survival as we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month with special contributions from Debbie Adams, Nicole Cramer, Gwendolyn Deaver (that's the beautiful and brave Gwendolyn on our cover this moth!), Sara Fleegle, Wendy Issac, Marilyn Miller, Jennifer Parsons, Tina Pelesky, Lauren Pyle, Jennifer Randall, Amy Stango, and Kathy Vuckovich.

Each of these ladies submitted her story and was then professionally photographed by one of our amazing photo contributors including Stephanie Bosworth, Karissa Lupton, Dennis and Liz Miller, and Stephanie Rager (whose work was chosen for this month's cover!)

We also have an interview with Andi Palmer of Operation BeYouTiful as the organization gears up for this weekend's big masquerade fundraiser.

Also inside this issue you will find 100 "Faces of Fall" submitted to us by our readers; Amy Bradley offers a tale of some - shall we say - "spirited" personalities who may or may not be living in a downtown business; Kaylee Kolonich gets behind the scenes of "Rocky Horror;" and William Hand offers his review of the Ghostly Tales of Southwest Pennsylvania in this month's Book Club selection. There is also a touching column from Josh Knipple and even our managing editor, Shane Riggs, offers his thoughts on why he has a "love/hate relationship" with the month of October. And, we have details on how you can be a part of our next big wedding issue.

It's all inside the October issue of Johnstown Magazine --available everywhere right now!

ASSIGNMENT JOHNSTOWN

JUST SAY I DO!

Want to be included in our next big Wedding Issue?
Want to see your wedding photos in an award winning magazine? Maybe even make the cover?

Now's your chance!

In January, 2026, we will once again feature an edition dedicated to what it means and what it looks like to get married in the Greater Johnstown area and in our surrounding communities.

We are currently looking for photos of weddings -- from those recently hitched to those who have been honeymooning for longer than they care to admit. We want to see traditional, nontraditional, white wedding or alternative hues, indoor, outdoor, big affair, close friends and family, church or courthouse -- yes, we want all kinds of weddings.

This is your chance to share the wedding of your dreams with our readers and to be part of a county wide celebration of commitment! What's it look like and what does it mean to be married in Johnstown? Cambria County? Surrounding areas? We want to find out. Show us.

Readers and local photographers who have shot weddings are asked to submit their materials -- with as much written detail included as possible -- to [email protected].

We are looking for wedding photos now through Friday, October 24, 2025.

If you done the deed, just say “I do” and we’ll do the rest.
You have your assignment, Johnstown.
