Congress Wants to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

The U.S. House of Representatives has taken a significant step by passing the Sunshine Protection Act, which will make Daylight Saving Time permanent, and ending the yearly clock changes that disrupt our sleeping habits.

The bill now advances to the U.S. Senate, where it must be approved and signed by President Trump to become law.

If signed, Illinois would no longer need to "fall back” each November.

So, what changes would the bill this bring?

Here is the breakdown:

☀️ During summer months nothing will change. Sunrise and sunset times would stay the same as they are now.

🥶 In winter, sunrises would be about an hour later, and sunsets would be an hour later.

• Current winter: Sunrise around 7:15 a.m., sunset around 4:25 p.m.

• With permanent Daylight Saving Time: Sunrise around 8:15 a.m., sunset around 5:25 p.m.

The purpose of Illinois Citizens Reentry Day, of the annual observance is to recognizes the challenges people face after incarceration and highlights the organizations, advocates, and community members who help returning citizens rebuild their lives.

In Joliet,Holsten Human Capital Development NFP (HHCD), in collaboration with Joliet Unity Movement, celebrated the occasion with a community cookout at HHCD’s River Walk Homes office.

The City of Joliet Economic Development is celebrating a another win after being named City of the Year at the 2026 Illinois Commercial Real Estate Awards presented by REjournals.

The statewide award recognizes communities that stand out for their economic development, investments, and growth.

Joliet beat out Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Oswego, Pekin, and Romeoville.

The award comes with $1 billion plus in construction valuation over the past 14 months!!!

Finding stable housing, employment, transportation, mental health support, and rebuilding confidence can become major obstacles while trying to start over after incarceration.

But Pamela Fort and New Day Employment Network (NDEN) helping people navigate those struggles has become more than community work, it has become her calling.

“To whom much is given, much is required,” Fort said. “God gave me a ministry, and that ministry is really working with the justice-impacted population.”
