Statement from KASU Public Radio Station Manager Mark Smith on the recission of funding from public broadcasting.
From KASU Station Manager Mark Smith
——
By now, you’ve heard about the rescission of federal funding for public broadcasting. This presents KASU with both a challenge and an opportunity.
While some stations in underserved parts of the country may have to close their doors, with ongoing support from Arkansas State University, local underwriters, and you, our listeners, KASU will find a way forward.
Change is inevitable. Sometimes change is a choice. Sometimes change is forced upon you. This change in our funding model will likely affect what you hear on KASU. While we continue to assess the impact this change will have and to formulate what will likely be an evolving plan to move forward, KASU will also continue to do what we and other small, rural stations across the country have always done. We will serve our communities to the best of our ability, making the most efficient use of the resources we have.
What can you do? Let us know how you feel, how KASU impacts your life, and what you want from your public media service going forward. Tell others about KASU. Engage with us on social media. Contribute financially if you can, at kasu.org/give. Include KASU in charitable giving plans, estate planning, and in donations of vehicles, real estate, stocks, IRA distributions, and donor advised funds. There are many ways in which you can make a difference.
Thank you for your friendship, your encouragement, and your support.
