The Clayton County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Luncheon was a tremendous success, with Interim Clayton County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Douglas Hendrix serving as the guest speaker.

Dr. Hendrix addressed a room filled with business owners, elected officials and community leaders while discussing education, partnership and Clayton County’s future.

Although “interim” remains in his official title, the reception he received seemed to communicate something more: the business community appeared to embrace Dr. Hendrix as the Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools.

That was not necessarily a formal endorsement—but the applause, enthusiasm and confidence expressed in the room were difficult to overlook.

Last night was truly amazing as Arts Clayton welcomed guests to its 18th annual Arte’ Gras Benefit Gala. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, this year’s “Arts in Wonderland” celebration invited everyone to enjoy a very merry unbirthday filled with creativity, community and unforgettable fun.

Clayton County Public Schools has an interim superintendent—but no documented path to a permanent one.

We filed an open-records request and reviewed Dr. Douglas Hendrix Sr.’s contract, Board meeting records and the district’s official response. What we found raises important questions about whether a permanent search is planned, whether Dr. Hendrix is being evaluated for the position and when the Board intends to make a final decision.

Dr. Hendrix is leading the district, and many residents want him appointed permanently. Others believe the Board should conduct an open and clearly explained process.

Dr. Douglas Hendrix Sr. is leading Clayton County Public Schools under a one-year contract with full superintendent authority. The Board discussed personnel matters privately before appointing him, but the records still do not show how—or when—the position will become permanent.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY ISSUED FOR NORTH CLAYTON

Residents and businesses in Forest Park, Lake City and Morrow are under a mandatory boil water advisory following an early-morning pump station failure that caused water pressure to drop or stop completely.

Although normal water pressure was restored around 4 a.m., residents in the affected areas should continue using bottled or properly boiled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing baby formula, making ice and feeding pets until the advisory is officially lifted.

The cause of the pump station failure and the expected duration of the advisory have not yet been announced.

Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry has a bold vision for Clayton County. Now residents need the plan.

During a recent interview with We Are Clayton Magazine, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners chairwoman spoke about mixed-use development, airport-related opportunities, workforce training, public safety, new revenue and generational wealth.

Her ambition for the county is clear.

What remains unclear is how that ambition will become measurable change for residents.

Which projects will move first? Who are the committed partners? How will the projects be funded? What local hiring goals will be established? When should residents expect results?

A vision can inspire a community. A public plan allows that community to measure progress and hold its government accountable.
