Leadership does not always need a spotlight.

In our latest We Are Clayton Magazine feature, Clayton County Board of Education Chairman Ben Straker reflects on public service, student success, the new Convocation Center, and the work still ahead for Clayton County Public Schools.

His mission is clear: keep the focus on the students.

From his early involvement as a parent at Morrow High School to more than a decade of service on the school board, Straker’s story is about commitment, infrastructure, literacy, workforce pathways, and helping Clayton County students see what is possible.

“I don’t need a building named after me,” Straker said. “All I need is for that person to say, ‘Mr. Straker helped set the pathway for me.’”

City officials will formally unveil the new Office of Economic Innovation and Infrastructure, a major initiative designed to strengthen economic development, attract investment, enhance infrastructure, and improve quality of life across the city.

According to the announcement, this new office will unify economic development, capital investment, tourism, and community activation under one strategy to help move Morrow forward with greater focus and impact.

Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and hear directly from city leadership about the vision, strategic priorities, expected community impact, and opportunities for business growth, job creation, and long-term development.

This is a significant moment for Morrow, and one that points to the city’s next chapter.
