Planning to file Form I-485? Take note! USCIS is releasing a revised edition of Form I-485 effective September 18, 2026, in connection with the new Public Charge Final Rule.

📅 Important filing dates:
✅ Before Sept. 18, 2026 — USCIS will accept the 01/20/2025 edition.

❌ On or after Sept. 18, 2026 — The 01/20/2025 edition will be rejected

✅ On or after Sept. 18, 2026 — Only the 09/18/2026 edition will be accepted.

⚠️ There is NO grace period. Using the wrong edition could result in your application being rejected.

📌 If you're preparing your adjustment of status application, check the form edition carefully before filing.

The U.S. Visa Bond Program now permanently requires citizens from 50 countries to pay a refundable bond of $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000 when applying for B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourism) visas — up from the previous $5,000 minimum. 💰

The bond works like a security deposit:

✅ Fully refunded if visa is denied or traveler exits on time

❌ Forfeited if the traveler overstays

Affected countries include 30 African nations — such as Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe — plus Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Cuba, and Venezuela. India is not on the list.

While the program successfully reduced overstays to fewer than 50 recorded instances, advocates warn it has already caused an 83% drop in visa issuances for affected nations. ⚠️
